HOW TO CARRY BEER????
Serious question- we've been going up to the rock jump/creek lately, and the ice chest is heavy to carry uphill a couple miles on crazy terrain.
We drink Coronas, so I've been thinking I could use one of my eberlestocks as an ice chest- (read: easier to carry), however, glass bottles are clumsy- so i could put them in there w/ ice and let it drip out as it melts, or in a plastic bag, or ???
Surely, there is a ZSer out there that has perfected this. lol
Thanks for any input. Oh yeah- usually at least 3-4 12 packs and a bottle or 2 of hard.
Thanks again,
-Dave

I remember reading somewhere that the best place to store water is in your stomach.
Same applies for beer!
Other than that you could invest in a couple dozen neoprene bottle koozies.

If you have a huge liquor store/warehouse, go see if they have Corona in cans. It's hard to find, but they are starting to sell it more and more. That right there would aid you in your quest.

Re: HOW TO CARRY BEER????
Easiest answer, switch to a beer that comes in cans. Carry them to the river in a backpack (no ice). When you get there, secure them in the water in a mesh bag. The water will keep them cool. This is what we do at ZCON. When the beer's gone, you can smash the cans, carry them out in the mesh bag, recycle them, and use the money to buy more beer.Dave Carroll wrote:Serious question- we've been going up to the rock jump/creek lately, and the ice chest is heavy to carry uphill a couple miles on crazy terrain.

If you don't think good beer comes in cans, go to Trader Joe's and check out their Simpler Times lager. It's a good lager, and it comes in a can. There's also Tecate which is okay.

Strap the chest to the hand truck with inflatable tires and then drag it up. Bonus is that the truck acts as a chest stand once you're up there. And two of you can get a hand on it and drag if necessary.

empty the beer into a camel back bladder.
Not saying that I have particapated in such illegal activities as sneaking beer into sporting events... but if I were to, or if I had friends that did so, that was how we would do it/did it...

Re: HOW TO CARRY BEER????
Or just bring a big bottle of whiskey... packs in and out easy.
Re: HOW TO CARRY BEER????
+1 on the cans. You MUST use cans. Bottles are heavy and can make an awful mess if broken. You don't want to be the guy who smashes a bottle right where people get into the creek. Cans can be crushed and easily packed away. I suspect cans also cool faster. Up in Canada we have :

I usually buy the European (German, Czech, Polish) beer because they come in in 500ml/1 pint cans up here ( and they are delicious). For the mesh bag idea , I use a US GI laundry bag I got used for under 10 bucks at a local surplus shop with a length of paracord.
Wine in a box is also an idea....not that there's anything wrong with that.

Nice item, but I see no evidence of it being on sale for $50. It might be a good deal at $50, bit steep at $110.1200RT-P wrote:do I win?

This also works with any non-moisture sensitive stuff you want to keep cool. We did that with a watermelon once... came out of the creek tasting great! Pretty sure we stashed a jug of milk that way too.
A friend once preemptively stashed a 30-case of beer on a trail that we hit later on in the week. He lumped it up there the hard way though. Didn't tell us about it until we got near his stash point. Surprise! Trail beer!

just to update .... looks like they've changed the "sale" product. I think it was a "one day sale" type of thing.1200RT-P wrote:http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/sale/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Jeriah wrote:Nice item, but I see no evidence of it being on sale for $50.
