I've gone through 2 pairs of the tfxs in the last 10 months. Granted, I wear them for 10 hours a day, but the inside heel area wears out way too fast and then exposes a sharp piece of plastic which tears up your heel. I will not be buying another pair. I've also noticed that in these boots, athlete's foot flare ups are more common than with other boots. They don't even feel like real Danners, save your money. Oh, and the ATACS version is repulsive.

The RAT boots seem to have the same issue. About six different guys I've talked to have had this, or cut out the plastic piece to prevent it. Seem to work fine without the plastic, though.

ok so ive got a question and didnt really see an answer...what im looking for probably doesnt exist.

Im looking for a military stlye boot ( black, leather, 8-10 inch) thats good for total ZPAW but damn comfortable for hiking as well. somthing that will keep me dry and cool in the summer and warm and dry in the winter. Waterproof isnt a nessisty becuae im looking into merion wool socks with a wicking liner underneath.

oh and under 400 bucks...do any of the Danner Mil boots fit that description? Im not set on danner, but have heard nothing but good things about them.

I really only hike once every 1-2 months, but want to get out more and go farther and harder...plus if they're built to survive combat/paw/shtf then a few backpacking trips should be nothing right?

Right now heres what i wear to school a few day out of the week and when i go into the woods: Cocorran 10 inch combat boots:

http://www.amazon.com/Corcoran-978-10-I ... 992&sr=8-1

I love them...but they always give me blisters on my heels. although thats probably becuase they're a half a size too big and i dont wear the right sock combo...

You can go with Corcoran 8in hotweather boots. just be sure to get your wool winter socks. I have had my pair of corcorans for a year and a half, going on two years this july, And it took me about 6 months just to get them totally broke in. Very nice boots. and they get a very small return rate.

I wore a pair of Converse 6" Stealth Side Zip Boots for the majority of last year for work. They were very clunky, couldn't take a polish very well, and the soles wore out after a little more than 9 months of extremely light duty. I had to use Shoe Goo to hold them together for the last two month's I had them. But, dammit those things were comfortable.
Image

I have since switched to a pair of Bates C3 8" Side Zips and couldn't have been happier. It remedied all the gripes I had with the Converse's, they're lightweight, polish very easily, and breathe pretty easily thanks to the air vents in the soles.
Image

Due to the air vent's I doubt that they'll fare well in wet conditions, though. But it's probably nothing a little Shoe Goo can't fix.

I have been wearing the Blackhawk Warrior Wear Desert OPs http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Warrior-Wear-Desert-Ops-Boots,1062,20.htm for a while, but I just got the Blackhawk Warrior Wear Light Assault Boots http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Warrior-Wear-Light-Assault-Boots,1060,20.htm about a week ago and they are awesome! I look forward to testing them out in the near future. BTW Amazon has these boots for much cheaper than the Blackhawk website.

I have 5 pairs of boots total.

My daily wears for work and play are my 8 year old Magnum Stealths in black. The only thing that doesn't work anymore is the side zipper.
I have 2 pairs of Converse, Desert Da Beast Composite Combat Boots, heavy but comfy as all hell. The other is a pair of Ultra Lite Velocity Tactical boots. These are lighter than my sneakers.
I have a pair of Bates Desert Combat Boots and a pair of Magnum Hot Weather Desert Combat Boots.

They are all rotated and worn, the only issue I have with any of them is the eyelet breaking off on my Converse UltraLites. They are going back to LAPG in exchange for a pair of these.

I picked up a pair of Nike SFB's for garrison use. They needed almost no break in and really feel like sneakers in weight and flexibility. I have heard that they wear out rather quickly with hard use, but they are the most comfortable boot I've ever tried. I have pretty bad plantar fasciitis so I need to cheat a little.

Presently the only boots I have are a pair of Steger mukluks. They're great for temps below 20f or so, but start getting a little toasty above that. The next pair of proper boots I buy will probably be the Otz Troop Leathers in brown. I can't wear a show with any sort of elevated heel at all if I want to be able to walk for any extended period of time comfortably, let alone run more than half a mile.

I've sent e mails to Merrell and New Balance to request a minimalist hiker to go along with their new lines, but nothing has showed up so far.

Who knows what 2013 holds though. I'm hoping...

Had a pair of Redwing work boots ages ago No shock absorption for urban areas. Sole was a smooth minimal grip.

Right now have Doc Martens boots the UK made ones. Good sole for walking on concrete and hard urban areas like steel subway steps and platforms. Would not recommend them for woods or hiking use. Sole does not have enough deep grip.

Since arriving in Douchbagistan (Aghanistan) I've noticed that the prefured boot of choice is the Rocky's boot and the Nike boot.

This guy is selling more of those USAF Sage Green Goretex boots. (And several others.) For dirt cheap. $60 shipped for most of them used. My pair I bought a couple months back is below. All of them have copious pics. Most are barely used. You can't find sage goretex boots for less than $100-$150. These specific boots new are like $175 I think. Great for extra boots. Or a cheap addition to your prepper stuff.

The rockys and the nikes are both really ccomfortable, though ive notcied when it comes daily field use the nikes are fare less durable than the rockys, both are a good boot and theyre about as light as normal tennis shoes

After reading so many good things about Danner I finally ended up with my own pair. Model 26000 NO GTX love that. Apparently these were issued but the soles look perfect and they smell new. Super comfy and at 10.5 EE they fit just right, though I don't normally wear wide sizes.
Left boot weighs 1069 g, right boot weighs 1070 g.
