LOL! I don't get it either Undead. :) But I wish those Converse came in goretex. I'd be all over them. Would much rather rock a light weight boot. But oh well. I will have to settle for long wearing.

I was wondering if any of you have tried these.

They're in my price range but only if they're going to be decent boots. I realize for that price they're not going to last forever but I'm hoping they'll treat my feet right at least for awhile.

Nothing in sage goretex. I think if I had the money I would buy the Danner 26048's with Goretex. I need the Goretex.

I'm sure the lightweight tactical boots would be much more comfortable and light. But can't find any in sage and goretex.

I have the Sage Green Danners with Gortex...they are really comfy and had a real small break in period...quality boot.

If I had $250 I would buy them. Some day. Right now I will have to make due with the McRae's. The Danner 26058's are awesome looking boots.

I would like to say fuck goretex. maybe it's just me, but any situation where my feet got wet, they stayed wet. Once or twice the goretex kept them dry. Anytime the temperature climbed over 40F i got sweaty-smelly foot and was stuck walking in it all day.

So I ask you, am I doing something wrong, is the 'Corps issuing shitty goretex, or am I a freak of nature? My non-goretex lined boots don't do that.

They are about $150-$175 here on base. I got mine on sale for $100.

Online I think $230 without shipping was the cheapest I found the 26058's. If I could find them for $100 I would buy them in a second. There is an Air Force base with PX in my small town. But I have no way of getting on base. I was in the Corps long ago. And not retired. Just one stint. Maybe I'll join the reserves so I can get some cheap boots. LOL! ;) I'm to old.

I'd vote "freak". ;) Kidding of course. IDK. I've never owned a pair of Goretex boots. I've always done it the old fashioned way with BLO. But know a lot of people that do wear Goretex. The complaints like yours that I have heard were from "insulated" boots. They make peoples feet to hot and sweaty. Perhaps your Goretex boots were also insulated? I've been warned off of insulated boots for those very reasons - to hot and sweaty. Even in the winter. But this is mainly coastal PNW mind you.

I think it also depends on the climate your wearing them in. If your humping thru Camp Pendleton in the dead of summer. Your Goretex boots will no doubt be hotter than non-Goretex. I would think. But if your humping thru the woods of the PNW in the dead of winter rain your probably alright. I'm not sure about the seasons inbetween. It would probably be best if you had a summer boot and a wet weather boot. But in a PAW you don't really have that choice. So I would go with Goretex. Considering rainy wet coastal mountains PNW is my final destination here soon.

Which reminds me that I haven't packed tennis shoes in my INCH bag. Christ when will the packing end?! Everytime I turn around there is something else that has to go in that GD bag. LOL!

I've had a few instances where they've served me well for walking through shallow water or wetland type area, but Florida is turning into a fing desert soon anyway (no rain) so I'm not sure.

I like the Nike SFB. Won't last forever but they are light as hell. Something like 2 lbs for the pair. If you want something durable, my Danner TFX and Rocky S2V's have both lasted me forever.

Picked up a pair of leather Aldo boots at Goodwill the other day for $14.99. I don't think they were intended to be hiking boots but they all all leather and have great treads. I put in new insoles before I hike with our Cub Scouts last night and they're very comfortable.

Worth gambling on a pair? That's a smokin good price, but the caveat is that they were recalled after Marines in Afghanistan claimed they were having quality issues.

I don't think they were canceled, we can still get them, and they are authorized for wear.

A couple of guys here have them and a few Corpsman have them down at Medical. One guy's pair looks really ratty and they are still holding together.

Hell at that price I might go ahead and buy me a set :) I was just dreading another change to the uniform and another 100+ dollars I was gonna have to drop on a new pair of boots.

Got mine in the other day. They look and fit excellent. The only outward noticable difference I see is they stamped out the eagle on the EGA on the side. Not sure why, I'm assuming it's part of the de.mil process. Anyhow, seems like money well spent.

What kinda BOOTS do you wear

Postby CRags99 » Sun May 06, 2012 6:29 am

I bought a pair of 8" 5.11 ATAC boots about two months ago and I love them. Super comfortable to me which is important since I'm on my feet 9-12 hours a day at work. They can take a hell of a polish, and they didn't really have to be broken in. I wore them for a few hours the first day with no hits spots or issues of any kind. I'm very pleased.

I've gone through 2 pairs of the tfxs in the last 10 months. Granted, I wear them for 10 hours a day, but the inside heel area wears out way too fast and then exposes a sharp piece of plastic which tears up your heel. I will not be buying another pair. I've also noticed that in these boots, athlete's foot flare ups are more common than with other boots. They don't even feel like real Danners, save your money. Oh, and the ATACS version is repulsive.
