Challenge: Jayne Cobb and Kaylee's belt orders

Post by Honeypot » Fri Nov 30, 2012 2:33 pm

Y'all found (TV's "24") Jack Bauer's messenger bag, so here's a similar challenge for you:

Analyze and speculate what "Firefly" TV character Jayne Cobb's belt order is. :)

For bonus points, add in Kaylee's, from the (so-far first) movie "Serenity".

Looking at that belt, my first thought was 'Guess Mal told him no grenades again...'

Starting at the rifle, and moving counter clockwise around the belt
  • I see three magazines (1 pistol, 2 rifle) on the back,
    Front Pouch (Round) could be a combat tourniquet, a monocle, or maybe a small smoke grenade.... None really feel like Jayne though... Cleaning kit?
    Large one, knowing Jayne, I'm thinking may be explosives. Looks around the right size, but I don't remember ever seeing him pull out explosives.
    2 Knives
    It LOOKS like there's something else on the back, but it's not visible..
    First aid kit, or maybe a shelter in that large pouch... Maybe food?
    Pistol (can't make out model... Frame reminds me of a .45)

I'm watching Firefly again right now, and was just thinking about his belt line my own self.

That, and how comfortable Mal's pants look to be...

And who doesn't bring grenades, if'n they got 'em? :?

They took away the entire battalion's grenades eventually. They also took our engos C4 last time after he used a halfstick to breach a door and told me it was a half pound.

Jayne in Serenity, going clockwise while facing him:
Large "dump" pouch
3 mag pouch
Handcuff holder
Bowie knife
Small "dump" pouch

Shoulder strap holster for MP5K

http://serenifly.tripod.com/serenityjayne5.html

This is very different from his normal belt in Firefly. That's supposedly a Bianchi Ranger belt with a modified Lemat in a drop holster.

Kaylee doesn't appear to have anything on any of her belts in Serenity.

Awesome breakdown, but...

sir, you have a problem with your brain being missing ;)

From the very site you linked to (top picture):
http://serenifly.blogspot.com/2012/09/k ... ralls.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Closeups of her belt:
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n364 ... itybag.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n364 ... tybag2.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Granted, it's just one pouch, but I "made" you look at Kaylee. :)

So, what's in her pouch?

Also, I'm suspicious of that "Handcuff holder". Makes no sense IMO. Yeah, it's a good description, but I doubt he would bother carrying that, so what's in that pouch? Maybe some sort of small tools?

Hmm. I missed that first picture (which is too bad because I like me some Kaylee). :clownshoes: I saw the other ones, but I thought they were for an over the shoulder bag, and not part of her belt. Kaylee's pouch almost looks like a blinged out Nagant ammo pouch. It isn't, but I bet it started out as something similar.

With Jayne, I'm not really sure why they changed his belt from the series for the movie. In my opinion, his series gear was a better fit for the western motif and looked much more like something a high-priced merc would carry. Plus, Lemat in space!

LOL!
Thanks to you both. :)

Today is an IN-asspishus day... it's the 10th anniversary of the last first-run broadcast of Firefly. We're doing a marathon tonight, and will be closely examining the belts of our Big Dang Heroes.

Last week, we rewatched "Serenity" (the movie), and did much studious pausing. :)

I had forgotten that Wash has two belt pouches on his movie costume (instead of the aviator survival vest in the series). One looks like a very small rolled up drop pouch.
Discuss amongst yourselves. ;)

P.S. Guess which site is currently #1 at evil-Google for the search term:
jayne cobb's belt order
I had a bet with a friend that that would happen. :)
Too bad a grinch moved it... could have exposed a trickle of Browncoats to the concept of a Bug Out Bag, instead of "Other Gear". ;)
