Recommend a Sword or Large blade or two (quality steel)

Postby ZombieKraft » Sat Jul 28, 2012 10:45 pm

Recommend a blade or two. I want quality steel not cosmetics. This will be a tool not a wall piece. So any cash spent on looks it wasted cash. However, if the best answer is also pretty wall hanger quality then so be it...

Normally I would think a gladius, moro barong or kukri/ghurka is ideal for one size fits all modern & PAW situations. They are all short (easy to carry) and powerful enough for bushwacking. However, I'm willing to be convinced otherwise. Willing to buy two blades for variety if needed....

The ability to use this on a camping site is a very nice bonus but not a necessity.

EDIT: I have half a dozen cold steel machetes. They are nice for the price but I'm looking for something of similar quality to the Cold Steel LTC or HTC Kukri or better.

I own an Ontario SP8 and have been very pleased with mine. It stays on my BOB and goes camping and on backcountry hunting trips with me. The steel is 1/4" 1095 and is easy to put and edge on and will hold an edge well. Not a sword. Pure utility. Not pretty either, but it gets the job done for me. The sheath is pretty good, too.

I have a few cold steel spear point machetes. They're somewhat versatile, but neither a great sword or great machete.

Seriously OP, have a talk to Storm Crow work up some designs with him.
Thus, end result you get something designed and forged exactly for what you want.

Plus his stuff looks wall hanger awesome and is as tough as ZPAW nails (search his posts and have a look). :awesome:

eta: Failing that have a look at Busse Gladii, Swamprat Waki, Busse AK Ruck, etc, etc, etc. The Busse/Bussekin swords are uberdamn cool and made of the legendary Infi or S7 steels. They are 'spensive and you'll most likely have to try and pick them up from the reseller's and second hand market.

Zombietools are awesome swords and you wont be disappointed with their blades. Their Mack Daddy-O is an amazing sword that just kicks ass. Well I could list off their amazing blades, but then I would have to clean the drool off my keyboard.

Though there are other options just as good, like the Angus Trim Designed ‘Zombie Slayer’ http://www.customswordshoppe.com/shoppe/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=51 see review here http://sbg-sword-store.sword-buyers-guide.com/zombie-sword.html There are also the Angus Trim Tactical Brutus or Tactical Leaf Blade if your preference is for smaller sized swords. See bottom of the page at this link http://www.triedandtruearmory.com/zc/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2 There are also other tactical blades by AT.

You might check out SBG (sword buyers guide) forum for some other ideas. http://forum.sword-buyers-guide.com They have a nice tactical sword section

The Windlass Qama is without a doubt the best short sword/big knife available for what it costs - $35. Quite gladius-like in size and shape, proper full tang, and as tough as anything (decent steel and good heat treatment). Reasonably pretty too.

Windlass don't have the greatest reputation, but if you cherry pick the models they do make some great stuff, and the Qama is a goody.
