Zombie Club Of Death!

Post by JoergS » Mon Dec 26, 2011 6:20 pm

OK, I just finished Episode 7 of the second season, The Walking Death.

My hat is off to Robert Kirkman and his team, great job.

One thing became clear to me while watching the show: Firearms are really weapons of last resort in a Zombie Apocalypse. They are just too loud. In the whole show, silent weapons (like the crossbow, but also machetes and even a screwdriver) ruled.

Machetes are probably really poor brain destroyers. They are made to chop limbs off jungle plants, not to smash Z skulls.

I thought about what kind of silent close quarter weapon I'd want... a spiky, medium heavy club was the answer.

But what if you can't draw the spike out of a Z skull fast enough for the next attacker?

So I came up with my ZCD (Zombie Club of Death) design.

It features 15 cm of curved, sharpened, polished, hardened 12 mm stainless steel rod, a boule ball and a skull retractor lever, devised by me...

You can easily use the spike to penetrate the ghoul's head, then retract simply by pulling on the lever, and finish the job with the blunt cudgel.

The weapon weighs 1,85 kg (4 pounds). The weight is all in the top part, making it very deadly.

I crashed through lots of wooden boards today, and removing them is as easy as a piece of cake. The impact of the boule ball is outright frightening.

I am still not sure if I will do a video (this is not a slingshot, after all). What do you think?

the design look special. i wonder how effective it would be. the head extractor look cumbersome. how would it handicapped the handling ?

You don't feel the extractor at all, it is light weight and not in the way. But sooo helpful if you want to retract the spike.

That's amazing! The extractor thing in particular is well done.

Nice. I'd really like to see some video of it being used...maybe practice extracting on watermelons or something? See how fast you can move from target to target, etc.

Certainly looks great.

I vote yes on the video. Perhaps not strictly a slingshot, but an adaptation of the materials for similar purpose.

I have added a small slingshot fork to the end of the handle, it shoots nice (due to the heavy weight, working as a stabilizer). This means I can cover it on The Slingshot Channel.

I must say this is probably the most effective short range weapon I have ever used.

I practice the fast removal of my Tomahawk's spike, from wood. It's tricky sometimes, but if there is some splitting of the wood, it always comes out easy. My point is this... I think if you hit a skull hard enough with a spike, the area around the punture will also fracture, the spike would come out easy.
I don't know how to test this theory, but maybe it depends on the spike, what's the shape at the base of the spike, and how thin is the particular skull.
I would think that a spike like the one on your club would just slip in and back out, just coat it in teflon!

But, I do think you're on to something. A long armed slingshot that's also a spiked club, awesome idea. We gotta see a video! Got any pig skulls laying around?

No pig heads, but I tested a 40mm particle board. It went through, got stuck (the hole was very clean), but the lever got it out with one decisive jerk.

Here are some new pics!

I had to reinforce the club with steel, the blows compressed the wood. Now it is very solid. This is a very effective war hammer!

Now I hope that my local supermarket will get a supply of coconuts in... they were sold out.

Your weapon reminds me of one form of the native-American war club

I think the ball-end of your club is enough all by itself for destroying a zombie's brain. I think the spike is overkill (so to speak). Though the spike could also be used for trip attacks by using it to hook a zombie's leg.
I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

That Indian club looks great! They must have had some nasty Zombie outbreaks before Columbus came along.

I think the spike is nice because you can penetrate a skull with ease. So even when fatigue has kicked in, you can effectively make dead things deader.
