This will be on it's way to me as soon as the sheath is finished, making me an official member of the Guys who have a Seax Club.

It is the AWESOME!!! Can't wait to hold it in my grubby little paws.

Bowie knife, properly made and designed, is second to none.
With the right design ( not nesesarily what we generally marketed as a bowie) you get a larger knife, that is both powerful and quick, offers superior hand protection and dexterity. Carries and conceals. cuts, chops, whittles, carves, thrusts and backcuts.

Redneckzombiekiller, can we get some info on the blades you posted ?

They look really interesting to me and I'd like to know more about them.

Well not much to say about these blades, because I make them myself in my shop.
Image

Each one is made out of 3/8" thick heat tempered carbon steel, which I use hand and stone grinders to place the edge on. Afterwards I use honing oil and sharpening stones to set the fine edge. Because they are made from carbon steel and not stainless they have to be cleaned and oiled after use or surface rust will begin to appear.

The blades run through the full length of the handles which are two pieces set in placed with a set of 1/4" bolts and secured with JB Weld.

Nothing special ( I know) but I get tired of purchasing blades and have them break from metal fatigue ect..

That's cool, redneckzombiekiller.

I hate buying an expensive knife only to have it break under normal usage as well.

Hey, all! Just as an FYI, the Sword Buyer's Guide store has the Valiant Armoury "Norwich" falchion (based on the ATRIM "Courtrai") on closeout sale for $216, with free shipping. I ordered one, being very pleased with the other VA sword I own (a "Bristol" short-sword), and I can't wait until it arrives! From what I understand, they're on closeout because falchions just don't have the same popularity that other medieval swords do.

Thanks for reminding me about that old Courtrai cutting vid of mine, kenning. I haven't seen it in a while. The Courtrai is quite a beast but still has some subtleties about her. The Valiant Armoury Norwich is an almost exact copy. Sonny Suttles (owner of VA) used the other Courtrai prototype sword as the basis for the Chinese to copy, so it's real close. Valiant Armoury also offers custom services to modify the sword and scabbard however you want for an extra price. I always thought a Courtrai/Norwich with a very short Bowie-style guard would be a darned good ZPAW weapon/cutting tool. Sonny can weld the guard and pommel in place, do a grip that is impervious to weather, and cover the scabbard with truck bed liner instead of leather. That would be awesomeness personified! Then all it needs is MOLLE attachments. :awesome:

Yeah, dammit. I went through all the attribution requirements on the music, but if someone disputes it, youtube just locks it down. I need to repost that video with no soundtrack. Got a few other falchion cutting vids that need to go up too. I am, after all, a "falchionophile."

I love riding some one else's necro and the nseeing that somebody commented on something I posted. Anyways...

Knife by Tinker, who is on new product hiatus, but still has product available including some "production" swords he licensed out to Cas Hanwei:
http://www.medievalcollectibles.com/c-4 ... words.aspx

He is a new author with a book about a dwarven rifleman (fantasy of course):
http://www.amazon.com/Michael-Tinker-Pe ... B00A6X16X6
as well as some other books he wrote about modern swords and such (expore the link above). He's also a quasi friend of mine, more on FB now as opposed to F2F.

The inner sheath was made by Tinker too. I made the outer sleeve, straps and such. The fittings (All-Father heads and strap buckle and end bit) are made by Torgul aka Duke Torgul (SCA) aka Pat Collins. He also did that arm ring, which he gave me after a day I challenged him and he whooped my ass. He'd been "retired" from fighting for about 8 years and one day put his armor back on and just walked out onto the field with no warning or fanfare (he is a famous/notorious SCA fighter). As was custom for us Varangians I immediately ran up to him and issued a challenge. He creamed me in front of a circle of about 30 fighters watching, fucker still had it. He gave me the arm ring as a gift for getting killed first. Pat dosent do much period jewelry any more though he and his wife have a shop in Eugene, OR selling modern metal art work.

If I end up buried in a coffin these are going with me. If not then handed down to my kin.

Got my VA falchion today. NICE :D ! I think it would be a great ZA/SHTF blade, as it is much stouter (and has a bit more reach, with a 25" blade) than a machete, yet could fulfill the function of one if necessary - much more so than a two-edged sword. It has enough "point" to thrust with in a pinch, but would be mighty hard to stop in a swing!

Anyone know of a place to buy a decent seax knife that won't break the bank?

Himalayan Imports made some at one point, but they aren't on their website anymore.

There are others out there that make some really nice custom jobs that are more for display ($1,000+ kind of nice), but that's way more than I'd spend on a blade.

Browning, check out the Himalayan Imports sub-forum on bladeforum (need to be a member to see it). I'm pretty sure I've seen some for sale on there in the last few months. Or just email Himalayan Imports directly. I'm sure they can get you one, just a matter of how long you'll need to wait.

I've actually emailed them and I didn't get a response.

Have to check out blade forum, I have an account from several years ago. Maybe I can still get on there.
