I like the Martindale Golok http://www.greenmanbushcraft.co.uk/cutt ... -golok.htm but then I did get it “cheap” from the RQMS stores many moons ago, so I don’t mind if it gets a few dings.

Joezilla wrote:all condor items are guaranteed for life, period. It had to be a small variation in the wood, as this is the first I have seen of it. I personally took one for two weeks in the jungles of Peru, using it hard every day to make shelters and get through the forest. It sounds like you just got a bum one. The grinds have also been getting a lot better, as all of these are finished by hand. Some have more of a distal and spine to edge taper than others, especially from the first run.

Please contact me via PM, and I will put you in contact to get a replacement pronto!

Oh hey...just got back this thread today. Busy, busy. PM sent.

I'm curious too, the new models look a lot better.

Dude who posted in this thread about replacing it never contacted me again after I gave him my address (can't even remember who it was it has been so long.)

Then I got back in the military not long after I posted this thread. It got boxed up and I JUST found the damn thing a few weeks ago oddly enough, lol.

I stripped off the rest of the wood (that glue was fucking ON there which is good I suppose) and started removing the pins before that, but that was as far as I got.

I am not sure if ill have time to do any more to it before this deployment, but if I do you guys know I'll post it for everyone to check out.

My plan was to put a new grind on it, TIG weld on a small extension to the tang (so it would keep its old useful "knob" shape on the end, but be "full" tang when finished) and hit it up with some DIY Micarta.

Like I was saying before, the overall balance, size, and weight of the machete is really too good to pass up. I hope I can make it all come together, life permitting. :P

I am sad to hear about you Golok. :(

I have not had the same problems with my Condor Kukri Machete. My Condor cuts amazingly and has exceeded all my expectations. :v:

Wow I am really surprised to hear your golok machete disintegrated so quickly! It reminds me of another report I read about a Condor kukri machete breaking in half the first time out. I wonder if Condor has some quality control issues with its materials or manufacturing.

I've owned several different Condor machetes, including the golok and kukri, and they have all been outstandingly tough, sharp, and effective. I have used my golok to prepare tons firewood, prune branches off trees, cut and harvest bamboo, cut through buried roots, and even dig holes as a makeshift shovel! It definitely sounds like you got a defective product, and I would certainly return it for a replacement. I can attest that not all golok machetes are flawed like that.

Reviving an old thread...

I was researching the Golok and up popped this thread...the Condor Golok now comes standard with a full tang..making it much stronger. A well designed sheath is now available for it as well. I've been using mine to clear approximately 2 acres of ground for a cabin, not only clearing the light brush, but all the limbs on larger tres as high as I can reach...the Golock is like the old Timex watch commercials..."It Takes a liking and keeps on ticking....."
