favorite maglite size
Inspired by the melee weapons for dorm life thread, I thought I should post a poll to get your opinions on your favorite size of maglite. Go ahead and explain your vote in your post, if you please.

I have two LED 4 D cells. I keep one in the car and one by the front door.

4D LED in the truck. Good light, wish energizer would come out with lithium 'D' cells...

Re: favorite maglite size
I've got a 3D-cell and a mini-mag. I got them from Sam's Club as a package deal for $20, includes: both lights, batteries for each, and holding clips for the D-cell. All in all I think it was a great deal. One of these days I'll pick up the led upgrade and see how that works out.

I carry the 3D in my car. I almost went with the 4D but it seemed a little too big to fit under my car seat

3D for me!
Re: favorite maglite size
I don't even own a maglite anymore. I broke about a half dozen mini-maglites before I dished out the cash for a tougher flashlight. A 4D size would be pretty good in a car though.
Re: favorite maglite size
I chose 4D because it was the option I have right now, but by far my favorite is a Mag Charger.

Re: favorite maglite size
I have two 4D's that I've had forever; one in the bedroom, one in the vehicle. I just recently (about two months ago) bought the LED conversions for them. Other than the mini-mags I own, (also converted to LED), they're the only mags I've ever had. One I got as a Christmas present a few years ago, the other has been with me through hell and high water for years, I think I got it the first or second year they came out.

You missed one, I have a 5-cell I like, but still want a 6-cell, part flashlight and part club. And i really don't like the LED "upgrade",with the light it gives off its hard to see longer distances.

The one I liked best was the 6 C-cell, but my son lost it and Mag doesn't make it anymore. Anyone know where I could still buy one? It's replacement is a 5 C-cell. Almost as useful.

maglites have their best value in a light+ baton. theres much brighter that are much smaller. but a maglite makes a good beating stick

Re: favorite maglite size
3d - I've kept one in the car for years, and my stepdad got me one for Christmas last year that I keep in the bottom of the nightstand.
[Edit] - I actually had to change the batteries in mine the other day (we had a power outage, and I had been using it for most of the night) and I actually have the 4d models.
I guess that says something about the battery life - it's been so long since I had to change them that I forgot how many were in there!

Favorite is 4D. One in the house, one in the car.
Also have two mini maglites with LED conversions.

4D. Anything smaller lacks potential impact as a club. Anything bigger and you're obviously trying to make up for some shortcoming...

Re: favorite maglite size
I've got a 2-D cell with the Maglite 3W LED upgrade dropped in. It sits in some u-channel padding I cut up from some dense-foam in the driver side door of my Golf. Originally it had the incandescant bulb and I cut up the padding to prevent it from rolling around and possibly damaging the bulb. After the upgrade, it just didn't make any sense to take out the padding, I liked it not rolling back and forth 1cm at a time when I open and closed my door.
I think it's still meaty enough to be used as a bludgeoning weapon, though I'm sure my DM would only give it a 1d4+strength bonus.

I said that they stopped making the 5 and 6 "C" sized lights and I asked if anyone knew where I could buy one or more of these discontinued sizes. The qusetion is still open. Any assistance will be appreciated.

All of the above, and then some.
Have a Minimag with Niteize single function tailcap, Luxeon Starfire III LED, polished lip, double thick lens, and rubber lens holder for red filters. It rides in a Niteize nylon swivel holster as my on-person EDC.
Another Minimag lives in my manbag, only upgrade is the Niteize LED conversion, as it gives some hardcore runtime on the lithiums.
My 3D factory LED does multipurpose duty, as its the most light in a very managable size.
My 4D factory LED rides in my car, mounted to the center console.
The 6D with Luxeon 6w LED is my nightstand light. Not so much for home-invasion defense, as the EDC Minimag is a better fighting light, but for lighting up the property outside for trespassers, and when I say property, I mean both mine and everyone else who lives on the block.
And the 11D...you cant handle the 11D
My favorite? My EDC. It can and will go wherever I go, 5-hour runtime, ~110 lumens, and its size and shape makes a fine self defense tool. It can hang with Surefires costing twice as much. Only drawback is the equipped tailcap switch blinks out once the lights been fully submerged for a little bit. No water gets inside, toss a factory cap on the back and it lights right back up, but its still the weak link.
