My neighbors' house caught on fire

Postby FlashDaddy » Sat Apr 28, 2012 3:05 pm

My neighbors house a block over from us caught on fire. They are the nicest folks in my 'hood. I met them years ago and they are always very friendly and very helpful folks. They had an electrical fire in their attic. Everyone got out OK, including pets. Though the fire itself was confine to the attic, they have trememdous smoke and water damage. The firefighters had to put a large hole in their roof and broke out three windows. The utility came and shut off power to the house at the utility pole. I gave them a spare blanket and jacket that I had in my trunk while we watched the firefighters at work. After the fire was out I got him to contact his insurance company to start the claims process. They have a lot of family and friends and have already have a place to stay tonight. Other neighbors have taken in their dogs. I loaned them my two camping coolers to put their fridge contents in, a large box of contractor garbage bags to put in clothes, dry food, etc., and tarps to put inside the house to cover up stuff on the lower floors from the dripping water. They have some friends coming over soon to put a temporary patch the roof.

The smoke was thick coming out of the roof eaves:

It is just shocking reminder that everything in your life can change in an instant.

Browncoat, milsurp gunnut, food & H2O storing Dad w/ 1 dog, 4 kids & the best girlfriend ever. I'm always googling "flu death". I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me. In the sky in November 2013 Comet ISON may be the brightest iceball to visit us in a 100 years. Or a big disappointment.
