Have you ever had a gun pointed at you?

Post by BethDeath » Thu Apr 03, 2008 7:25 pm

I had a dream last night that a friend and I were hanging out in my moms backyard and I was showing her my gun. She picked it up jokingly pointed it at me. I lectured her and said that even though it's not loaded you never, ever point a gun at someone. She went to put the gun down and it went off (turns out it WAS loaded). I woke up right after that.

Even though it was just a dream it was pretty damned scary and it was hard to shake off the feeling when I woke up. I can't imagine how it would feel in real life.

So now I am curious. Have any of you had a gun pointed at you before? What was the situation? Robbery? LEO situation? A drunk friend being as ass?

What was your reaction?

My first time was from an LEO.

I was working at a restaurant when I was in college to pay my way. One day the manager opened the safe and tripped the silent alarm. Oops, here come the police.

I was working the dish washing machine (a steaming hot, automatic child eating machine) in the back dish washing area and had just taken a load of garbage out to the dumpster. I turned to lock the door (company policy) and there was a local County Sheriff's Deputy, Smith & Wesson model 65 , six JHP's pointed right at me.

With the hammer back.

I watched him thumb it back as he yelled in a loud voice "ARE YOU BEING ROBBED?"

Here I was, 19 years old a wearing the dorkiest work "uniform" mankind has ever devised, covered in table scraps and soaked to the bone with a cop ready to drill me. My reaction?

I got pissed. Very, very pissed off.

I balled up my fists, bit down on my tongue and told him in a clear, calm voice to put the gun down and I would go find out. He just looked at me funny, lowered the Smith and stormed past me into the dining room with a cocked revolver.

The head manager chewed me out later for not locking the door.

The second was an incident a couple years after that during a hunting trip that I don't like to talk about.

I voted yes. I had a drunk biker illustrate what he considered the proper use of a .45LC derringer by poking me in the stomach with it.

When I was fifteen, my friend and I were trespassing on the roof of a shopping center that apparently had been burglarized before, and someone staying overnight in a store heard us and called the police. A cop climbed on the roof, drew on us and kept it on us until we were cuffed.

Another time, I flipped off a driver who honked at me even though I had the right of way. He pulled a gun on me, pointed it at me and shouted for me to pull over. Yeah. Like I was gonna do that. He was in a 4 cylinder Datsun pickup and I was in a 1970 Impala with a 389 V8. He didn't have the gun on me for long. It was scary, though.

A few years ago, a guy I knew was showing me and a friend a rifle, and he kept swinging it this way and that. My friend and I were jumping around like goddamn puppets on strings trying to stay out of the way. We dressed him down for his carelessness and he tried to insist that because it wasn't loaded, it was no big deal. Neither of us associate with that guy anymore.
Mostly not here anymore.

Yes. Back in '97, I was pulled over late at night by 3 patrol cars simultaneously. Six deputies jumped out. A few of them trained shotguns on me and my passenger while the rest inspected my car with flashlights. After a minute or so of inspecting my car, one of them asked for my license and then informed me that I had a headlight out.

He wouldn't tell me why a busted headlight warranted that level of response; he ignored my question and told me to "go on home and fix that headlight." Looking back on it, my guess is that they were searching for someone who's car looked like mine... Anyway the whole thing was one long WTF moment.

Yes. More than once.

A few were unintentional, and just the result of dumbasses who didn't know anything about firearms safety. That was long ago and those people are no longer in my social circle.

Other incidents were quite intentional, and things like that can really ruin your day...

At the range accidentally several times. By a LEO during qualifying. (rank idiot, he's gone now!) But the worse was an old man who we were told (I'm a reserve deputy) was suicidal. Turns out Pop's was suicidal AND homicidal. Big different and we could have used that little tidbit of info. He was seated in a wheelchair and unresponsive. We tried knocking and then tried to gain entrance but the doors were not only very strong, but also barricaded. I was looking through a window when he turned his head and lifted his right arm and produced a 4 inch .38 caliber 5 shot pistol with lead roundnosed bullets. Yes, I was close enough to see that much. I hit the dirt and roll over to the corner and announce "gun" really loud to the deputy. We later made entrance, his gun he said he didn't have was found and given to a family member, and I kept the bullets for a souvenir. This dude looked just like one of those horror movie faces and he turned in slow motion. It was weird as hell. Everybody there told me "you kept cooler than I would have."

I voted no because no one has ever pointed a gun at me with intent. However, I was teaching an ex to shoot one time when I hand her the gun, she's all WOOGUNINMAHHANDS and starts to load it and cock it with the barrel pointing at my face. Sure it was only a .22, but fuck; getting shot at isn't my idea of a good time, low caliber or otherwise. Then she got pissed because I was "telling her what to do in an impolite tone." Of course I'm telling you what to do in an impolite tone. YOU HAVE A GUN POINTED AT MY FACE.

A couple of times. Had pot shots taken at me as well when I was working mall security, gang bangers in Section 8 housing didn't like use cause we enforced a dress code that prevented them from "flagging" and because we took them to court for trespassing/fighting/disorderly conduct.Called 911, never caught the guys.

Yes Ive have guns pointed at me and even been shot at. Who would of thought being a Surveyor would have been as dangerous as a US Marine. And I used to live in a sorta bad neighborhood. Had a standoff a couple of times. Then I bought the old family house and moved back to the old neighborhood, no problems since then.

A local kid pointed a BB rifle right at my face. I grabbed it from him and broke it over my knee.

I bet he won't do it again.

Been a few years ago , I was on vacation at the beach. Stopped by a freinds house and they were having a party. Needless to say there were a lot of alcohol being consumed. This uninvited guest shows up. Highly intoxicated. he was really being an a##. Next thing I know he comes up to second floor balcony where we all are at. He looks at me and has that crazy look in his eye, he leaves, goes down to his car, I am watching him all this time and I see him retrieve something from his car.

He comes back, still looking crazy and as quick as a wink he pulls his iron and pointing it at me. I try to reason with him and all the time he is advancing toward me, I tell my wife to call 911. Still talking to him and keeping an eye on his trigger finger I wait till he gets close enuff for me to grab barrel of gun. He starts to wrench his hand back I twist gun to side he yells in pain because finger is in trigger guard. Once gun was pointed away from me and others there I delivered a swift knee to groin dropping him to his knees. Once he dropped gun I kicked it over to one of my buddies and told him to clear it and make it safe. Finding out that the gun was not loaded I escorted the young man off the premises with a few more delicate blows.

Really scary situation, but I did get his pistol out of the deal. Never saw him again.

Several years ago, in Mexico, I had a drunk "Judiciale" [hoo-dee-see-ah-leh] (Mexican Judicial Police - kinda equiv to FBI)
point a 1911 at me IN A BAR and say "quieres a morir?" ---> Do you want to die?

I intimidated the hell out of him with my trembling "no senor" and speed-walk back to the US Customs building.

My first week on the job as a health inspector in Colbert County, AL. I was riding with another guy who did solid waste enforcement. We stopped an this one house that had been put under a clean up order. The city dumped looked better than this guy's front yard cuz at least the throw dirt over it everyday. He came out, got all agitated, the pulled a knife and stabbed my partner, the grabbed a rifle he had apparetly placed next to the door before he came out to talk to us. He ordered me outta the truck then held us both at gunpoint for about half an hour, saying he was goon kill both of us before he went to town to kill everyone in our office. His wife finally got him calmed down where we could get outta there. Got back to town, went to get a warrant for his arrest, was refused by the D.A., and my boss ended up calling the A.B.I. in Montgomery. Well, when they finally went out to arrest him that night, he decided to shoot it out with the shariff's dept. That was the last time he pointed a gun at anyone. His 8 y/o grandson attacked a deputy with a knife.

Yes several times even excluding the accidental/careless incidents. Been shot at also (twice in 2005), the last time before that was at least two decades previously by a trespassing hunter who was trying to scare me off my own property.

None were fun or resulted me saying something smart ass or doing something macho. I took cover each time and kept my head down until I thought it was safe.
