What long arm and handgun are you using to bug out?

Discuss those "what if" or "what would you do" scenarios you've been wondering about.

I have a 12 guage pump and a 9mm Beretta. I live in CA so I can't own a real AR so I have to make do with what's legally available. Thanks Uncle Sam, thanks a lot.

and my FNP40 w/ 15rd mags. No pics, sry.

My girlfriend would bring up the rear with her .40cal Sub-2000 w/ 22rd mags. Gotta work on getting her a pistol or chest-rig or something lol.

Oh, and our dog, Donovan (because she'd kill me if we didnt :| )

I am still deciding which long arm I want to take. I rulled out my M1A and am considering my M4, AK, or a Sig 556 or getting a DSA Fal with a short barrel.

What guns are you taking and why?
Maybe none. It depends on the situation. Not all bug out situations will require a firearm. Just out of curiosity, given the repeated weird firearms questions that you always seem to ask, do you even own any of those firearms that you listed? How about posting a few photos? Besides, didn't you say in another thread that you typically carry three different handguns on you and you wanted to find out about adding a fourth?

Why would you not take a firearm if you’re leaving your home for an unknown destination for an unknown amount of time? If you’re legal to carry, I would definitely take a gun. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Not being prepared for any contingency goes against the whole point of this site.

As for me, If I am only taking one long gun and one hand gun then it's my sawed off 12 gauge and my Glock 27. The 12 gauge will be easy to find ammo for, can be used for self defense and also for hunting. It can be used on anything from pigeons and squirrels up to deer depending on the ammo. The Glock is the most powerfull handgun I own.

If I feel I can afford the extra weight I will also take my lever gun and my backup snubbie. The lever gun gives me the ability to "reach out and touch someone" and the snubbie conceals so well that I go go armed anywhere I needed to without raising suspicion and it's a good back up plus the ammo might be a little easier to find.

In the case you don't, then you arnt going to bug out with it, for example, if you don't carry daily don't plan to have your pistol (if)until you get home.

Like this, my BOG is my CZ P-01, I have it with me every day, if I cant get home than all I have is my pistol and a total of 3 magazines, 43 rounds. If I don't get home than that's all I have.
I carry the glock every day and with a spare nine round mag. I also have a gun safe in my truck with an extra 15 round G22 mag so if I am in my truck I have 33 rounds of S&W40. If I can get to my home INCH stash then in addition to the two long guns and 38 snubbie I also gain another a couple of hundred rounds of each caliber and another two mags for the glock, one is nine and one is fifteen rounds.

Lets see then using all the mags, speedloaders and gun capacity I figure I can get off 95 shots before I start having to reload mags long guns. That will hold off a fairly large zed herd.

since it's a Zombieland bugout scenario, I'll be able to take all this no problem (extra ammo not shown).

Bug Out is a last option for us. That said, if forced to do so and forced to one long gun and one pistol to do so, would be my POF P415 (EOTech, Surefire 6P in a GG&G mount, Knights Armament VFG, CAA 6 position stock) and Kimber Warrior .45 (Champion Sharkskin grips and Surefire X200). Wife would have my RRA/BCM AR build (ATN Reflex, Surefire 6P in a VTAC mount, Magpul AFV and CAA 6 position stock) and her Glock 23.

Colt CAR-15 and Beretta 92, I currently live with in 100 miles of three U.S. military bases (one major Army Post, one Air Force Base and one small Army Post), I figure these will be the most common firearms, ammo and magazines in my immediate area.

And from what I can find out it is true, so we have based our weapons and equipment on the stuff we can easily purchase in our AO without having to go out of state or even on the internet........Sorry for the confusion, I am not talking about raiding, looting, stealing or anything like that......they are legally available at a really good price at between $14.76 - $15.76 each for PMag (cheaper if you go with the 20 round ones). The major plus is when we buy on post, they not only sell most of the accessories as well as the ammo and of course it is tax free and they will also order any legal firearm for you at a real good price, as well as bulk ammo and again with no tax or shipping either.

Stuff is widely available on craigslist as well:

My "team" consists of myself, my wife, my daughter, her husand, my son, and a 12 year old granddaughter as well as a 11 month old granddaughter and my 78 and 79 year old parents. My wife and I use an CAR-15 and M9 in 9mm, my wife uses a AR-15 with a Sig P225 in 9mm, my daughter uses the same weapons as her mom, my son-in-law is partial to an AR set up like an M4 and a M9, my son is partial to his FAL and a Colt 1911 in .45ACP, with a Sig P225 for back up. The 12 year old is to childish to be allowed out of sight with a firearm so none for her (we have some but she isn't laying hands on them till she nuts up a bit), my parents both have Sig P225 in 9mm.....for watching the two grandchildren and any other children that my need our help.

I know a couple of other people in the area that are set up pretty much the same as we are weapons wise and then there are some that are set up with some type of soviet firearms mixed with assorted pistols like S&W semi autos, S&W Wheel guns, Glocks, Colt semi autos and Colt wheel guns, Berettas, and BHPs,.

The most common firearms sold in the PX (Army Post exchange) is the AR followed by the M1A, pistol is M9 type 9mm followed by Glocks, same at the Air Force BX, both of the Army Posts PXs sell tons of ammo in the base and post exchange. The only gun store in my town has two M1As for sale, six AKs and four or five SKSs, 10 to 20, AR types and maybe 50 to 60 Mosins in various styles, oh and two Mausers in 8mm. Top stocked ammo there is for the AR everything from factory to milspec stuff and some surplus as well. Same at Wally World, tons of AR ammo and AK ammo, followed by .45ACP bulk packs, 9mm Bulk packs which goes on sale every once in awhile.

All three bases sell PMags like they are going out of style, the gun store has a huge stock for sale as well (a bit more expensive by about $6.00 each). The town across the hill is the same way, ARs followed by M1As, then AK, SKS and Mosins are very popular.

My wife's plan is for us to head to the nearest military base (I am medically retired from the U.S. Army, my wife is retired active duty AF, my son-in-law is AD Army and my son is AD AF) to seek shelter if possible. She seems to think they will welcome us with open arms. Me, well I'm of the firm conviction that this course of action would not be good and we would wind up either getting there only to be turned away, or worse allowed in and stripped of all our gear, food, meds, guns and ammo. My plan is to run far, far away from them, and then back up into the mountains to some land we have up there and hope to ride it out with out caches and supplies.

Hope this explains things a bit better....basically we choose our firearms based on what was most common in our area and what we where familiar with not with anything illegal or unethical/immoral in mind.

I would take my smith m&p 9mm and my rock river 9mm ar-15. The rest of the family would be carrying pistol's , shotguns, and assorted .22's.

Sorry, but I just don't subscribe to the whole mental-masturbation thing in reference to ludicrous & unobtainable weapons.

I'll be carrying what I actually own & am proficient with --- 9mm Smith & Wesson 6906 & my trusty, reliable .30/30 Winchester Model 94.
The former saved my life during an armed robbery at my place of business 14 years ago & the latter has proven itself to be devastatingly-effective by putting venison and boar on the table for years under the worst imagineable hunting environments to be found here in Florida.

Not sure who you're referring to, but AFAIK, most of the guys on here do actually own what they say they are going to use. For me, it's still the mauser and the 59. GF gets the shotty and the p-11, if we have a third, they're gonna be stuck with .22s.

Due to the ammunition flexibility and availability, my basic 12gauge high standards shot gun. But after taking in my surroundings, distance from major metropolitan areas, neighbors, edible naturally growing plants, fresh water supply, waste disposal area, delicious furry critters, fire wood, and a few other minor things i have no plans on bugging out.

Probably my SKS and my Ruger p-95....let the wife hump my Marlin 30-30 and the Ruger Security Six, because shes not a shooter, and I feel it would be easier to use in combat...... probably let my boy pack his mossberg 20 gauge or his M-44, and maybe the JHP Hi point......Maybe let the girl carry my Marlin .22 for small game and stuff.......altough let me tell you what, I can already hear them whining about the weight

I'm not sure who--I mean, there have been some fantasy picks out there, but it is interesting that most of us are taking the practical "this is what I have, this is what I'm taking" approach to the thread. I don't know if we lack imagination, or what it means.

I guess maybe we figure it's "if you had to bug out right now," because if we had a week or so to get that dream weapon, we'd already be bugged out, and probably not need it for bugging out. :P

AR-15 with tactical set-up (Surefire M500AB, EOTech, sling) and mags carrying about 400 rounds with my SIG P220R with light. If I can get the wife to carry, she will have the Remingtion 870 Tactical and the S&W 6096. I guess I'll strap the Marlin 795 on the 4 year old.. He can't shoot that young but he can carry something.. :D

1911 and AK. I wish it was my AR but my AK is a folder so it gets pretty compact and can fit in a backpack.

I'm in the process of building a super short 10.5" SBR AR so I can swap them out.

I would take my AR and 1911, with my Browning takedown .22 in the pack. My girl would have the Mossberg 835 and her .40 Sigma. I would probably take my S&W .32 as well since its light.
