Apparently, somebody freaked out enough to crash into the prison in Richmond. Gotta get my hubby a GPS so he can get home when things like this happens.

EWR and JFK have reopened

PHL is still undergoing "inspections" which i can only assume will take several weeks based on the competency level there

My roommate was just talking about how she has never been though a hurricane and is worried about Irene coming for us.
Then Bam Earthquake.

Is it normal for this large an area to feel this quake? As of now News reports say Canada to Alabama and west to Colorado all felt this.

Live about 45min north of Mineral. The whole building was shaking and we have a lot of stuff hanging off our ceiling. Coworker found me with my backpack halfway out the back door. Was a new experience to say the least.

Also, stay out of Richmond. They are closing roads for the freaked crowds.

Two reactors at Lake Anna were tripped, but they were able to take them offline and say all is well. I'm ready to bug out if the alarms go off, though.

Just going to repeat this. Also, if you smell gas, call authorities.

Meanwhile... Traffic Map is a bigger disaster.

Got some good shaking just over the border in WV, but it was pretty minor.

Glad to see VA acting as a nice buffer zone for us WV folk from the earthquakes and hurricanes this week.. we appreciate your sacrifice.

I imagine people on the west coast are having a good chuckle just like the east coast does when the southern states start panicking at the slightest bit of snow.

Funny you mention that.. one of my west coast buddies sent me a message that said:

You know what we call a 5.9 quake here in CA? Tuesday.

made me chuckle.

They just said on the news that there is flooding in the Pentagon due to water pipes breaking.
That could be part of the reason for concern.

If I understood this right... NOT SURE, heard something on the news as I was walking into the room, NC Gov is declaring a SOE! If thats true then everyone's CCW is null until this "disaster" is resolved!

Yeah, I've stopped scoffing at people freaking out over small quakes. I've been in some large quakes here, but by far the most terrifying earthquake I've been in was a 4.8, forty feet up a cliff face on scaffolding.

Downgraded from initial 6.2 to a 5.8 but quite an experience.

At least the Zombie Squad peeps were prepared.

Had my office BoB on the desk and ready to go if we got evac'd. Fortunately no real damage here in Virginia

Believe it or not, one of our banks was evacuated, wife was on a conference call when the other end had to be evacuated. Son at high school said he thought he was having muscle tremors LOL until he saw the board swaying.

I was on the 18th floor and felt the shaking. Lasted 15-20 seconds. Walls creaked and my monitors shook. Then it stopped. No big deal, except I don't live in Los Angeles or Mexico City anymore. Remarkable only for its geography and scope.

My windows rattled here..... But I'm pretty sure it was just the Blue Angels breaking the sound barrier while practicing over the Gulf of Mexico.

So I got this email this afternoon, after the earthquake:

With the earthquake and potential hurricane, you should review emergency plans. The #### Citizens’ Emergency Preparedness Guide is available on the #### police website under emergency preparedness

Sent to E-mail accounts, Pagers, Cell phones through Alert ####

LOL

We have ours ready in case the Lake Anna nuclear plant decides to go. The quake hit very near it and they shut the reactors down as a precaution. It's designed to handle a 6.0 magnitude quake. Cutting it close, eh?

Well with a hurricane coming soon, guess they don't want to risk Japan happening on the east coast.
