I did an 8 hour shift at the Fire Department today...

Got bored sitting there, so me and 1 other guy took a ride in our brush truck. (1988 GMC pickup truck acquired from National Guard for the price of free) We have some big tires on it, so were good to go. Were driving around plowing through the snowbanks left by the plows, and we see some other guy who attempted it in a jeep but horribly failed. He was trying to reconcile with a snow shovel

Wish I got a pic

When I went to bed last night, the prediction for NTX was about 3 inches. At 5 am the prediction was 6-7". Now it's up to 8-9 inches out here in the country north of Fort Worth. I've already gotten about 2 inches.

I just spent the last half hour rolling around in our massive snow bank to create more room, sooo...how heavy is heavy?

Saw this lovely exchange on facebook last night:

Roofs are collapsing around here. This is a pic of the firehouse I vote at; the roof collapsed and broke a gas main. Fortunately, no one was hurt. This is the 3rd firehouse roof collapse in the area. Odd.

3, if my coal and wood wasn't buried in 3 ft of snow I would have brought my Klose pit smoker (there out of Texas and the Guy that delivered it thought it was a air compressor  its fuckin huge. ) home from my buddy's and did some ribs and brisket.
4, just because your in Texas don't mean you can bbq.

Hmmm, don't recall having much chance to review real estate literature while still in the womb.... but I get your drift :)
(and I mean that in a friendly joking sort of way, in case it comes across as harsh).

I have actually been trying to move for a while, but between difficulty finding a good enough job, and too much debt to go without one, I'm kinda stuck where I am. Had a chance for California though, but didn't want to sell half my guns as well as my truck to go there.

Ehh you don't want to move to California right now anyways. Give it a few more months and maybe we can get rid of some of these stupid gun laws. THEN you can come here.

I friend of mine outside of Philly said she had to shovel her driveway three times yesterday to keep it clear so she could attempt to get to work today. And that it was close to 8-12 inches each time. Then she finds out the HOA was sending someone to clear everyones drives. Sometimes HOAs can be a good thing.

snow

Postby AWSMJCBY » Fri Feb 12, 2010 12:26 pm

Not sure what forum to put this in so feel free to move it but,

For those of us hit by the recent blizzards:

I’m listening to the emergency responder feeds and, it appears it’s a good idea to try and get the snow off your roof as a bunch of structure are collapsing from the weight. The volunteer fire man I work with said if your roof is sloped throwing ice melt on it is sufficient.

Just a tip. (Im from Texas and not used to this stuff, so if this is well known info, my apologies)

Not a major accumulation for me, but it has started snowing here. I guess I can expect 1-3 inches total over the next 24 hours. Schools were let out early or canceled for the day, and I think most aren't planning to get back in until Tuesday or later. I'll take a picture once there's actually something not melting as it lands.

I ended up with more than 12 inches total. It was a record-breaking storm in D/FW.

The last couple of systems moved mostly north of me and this new one is moving mostly south of me. We have a few inches predicted here, but nothing that should be paralyzing for me.

One warning for folks down in Baja Carolina: the snow is predicted to be heavy and wet, which could cause problems with tree limbs and power lines. Mind those live wires and be sure to have safe backup heat.

I went to the store to stock up on Valentine's presents  This morning was the first I heard we would get anything. Then from the morning until the afternoon they went from a dusting to 4". Not that bad, but I'm ready for May

I was checking snowfall totals online earlier today. Baltimore, MD has had 79.9" of snow this winter  This is more than Syracuse, NY has received, making Baltimore the snowiest city in the US, currently.
