Yep - You folks are in for it. On the positive side, this is a good time to stock up on brownie points... A little time invested in helping folks in the neighborhood shovel out has always had excellent payoff for me.
Good luck out there!

Rush2112,

Sorry for the slow reply. Yeah, I do have a generator. It is not the most portable thing in the world though, and I don't have a truck to haul it over my parents' home. It wouldn't do more than run a few space heaters anyway, and since they are in their 80s I insisted they stay at my place until everything was back up to speed.

Anyway, today the power is back on at my folks' house. They went home this morning. Just in time - they are calling for another 6-10 inches today through tomorrow. Hopefully they will not lose power again.

I know this is nothing compared to what you guys up in Alaska get, but it is a matter of what you are used to. We get snow here in PA, but it is usually measured in inches, not feet.

the mayor of philly was on the radio today. he said that portland maine usually gets around 70 inches of snow a year and we get like 30 inches. This year if the storm hits tonight as predicted we will have 68 inches and portland will only have had around 35 this year.

We've got another snow forecast for North Texas for tomorrow night and all day Thursday. I could use a snow day too.

Thanks all Baltimore LEOs, Volunteers, and Emergency workers, and a pat-on-the-back for comcast (goes out usually)! Make that OT baby!

Although I share your sentiments on the subject at hand, you guys completely glossed over this;

Under North Carolina law, May said, when a state of emergency is put into place that includes a ban on driving, the carrying of firearms in vehicles is also banned. The King city curfew banned the sale of alcohol.
“I think there’s been some misinterpretation that I personally have declared martial law and taken away people’s right to bear arms and that’s erroneous,” May told WXII reporter Jermont Terry. “By law, statute 14-288.7 automatically went into effect. And that law which goes into effect when there’s a state of emergency prohibits the transportation, purchase sale and possession of firearms other than on one's own premises.”

NC, Article One, Section 30:

Militia and the right to bear arms.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; and, as standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they shall not be maintained, and the military shall be kept under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power. Nothing herein shall justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons, or prevent the General Assembly from enacting penal statutes against that practice.

It would be one thing if this happened during a REAL emergency, but this was not. It was a few inches of snow and some ice. This practice of declaring emergencies to qualify for aid really grinds my gears. (I'm referring to the King, NC article mentioned above not the storm in DC)

And the worst part is that they banned firearms, ammo sales and alchohol. Why don't they just ban hot wings and porn while they are at it. Then it will really be the apacolypse :)

Well, back to the subject of snow...

Last report from the NWS for my area, before going to bed.....
2-4 inches by daybreak
10-16 total for the storm, with winds up to 40kts.

The thing that really worries me is how many people are going to try and go to work, thinking it's not TOO bad when they look outside, only to be in a seriously shitty situation when they try to get home again.

Well we got 26 inchs on the ground from the first storm with another 2 feet going to drop from this storm. It should melt off by the 4th of July i hope.

The people are hitting the supermarkets to find empty shelves. They never fully restocked after the first storm.

Still snowing here too and we are in a blizzard warning. Area winds are gusting to 44MPH, I think technically we are in the lighter stuff but its still coming down pretty hard.

We got about another 6 inches so far since yesterday, but it is drifting a lot because of the winds.

This is starting to seriously suck. I like snow days and all, but I'm still aching from shoveling the last two feet of snow.

And every time I shovel the driveway, the plow truck drives by and buries the top of the driveway again.
