Virginia Declares Emergency In Advance Of Winter Storm
http://www.wusa9.com/rss/local_article. ... ryid=96764" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
VA is already in full panic mode: "Gov. Bob McDonnell has declared a state of emergency in advance of a winter storm expected early Friday through Saturday."
I don't plan on driving anywhere, but I am worried about the power going out. Heavy snow and ice leads to lines going down.

Does your BOB at least have: water, basic tools, fire, food, first-aid kit, and shelter?

Re: East Coast Snow Storm - Feb. 5th
I'm out in WV and am pretty much sick of all this F'ing snow.
Last weekend we got almost a foot, Tuesday we got 5 inches, now we are projected for up to 18" with this new one to hit tonight.
All this only a week after the snow finally melted from the 24" dump we got in the last storm.
Pretty weird weather for sure, this area only got a couple inches total last year. Both WV and VA seem to keep getting hammered.

Bring it on !

Re: East Coast Snow Storm - Feb. 5th
Snowfall is projected at 12-20" in my area. Which makes me laugh, but absolutely terrifies everyone else. I'm already stocked up for the weekend, so let it come!

Yea, Seriously, this is just wierd... We've had almost no snow in Western Ma. It doesnt even feel like winter, and you guys to the south of us keep having to dig out.
Good luck, and be safe.

Yep panic mode here in Richmond as well. Snow i can handle, but ice just suuuucks. The bright side for you is that camping is a week away, wish I could make it.
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Re: East Coast Snow Storm - Feb. 5th
There have indeed been a lot of snowstorms there, with a weird absence of big storms among the "usual suspects" in the upper midwest and the northeast.
It's a combination of three things, at least:
An El Nino-driven "Pineapple Express" (a parade of strong, wet storms one after another coming eastward from from the Central Pacific).
A dip in the velocity of the jetstream over the pacific (when it's weaker, I think the storms stay more intact longer).
A Negative Arctic Oscillation (which I think encourages stronger Greenland Highs and pushes colder dry air down south from central Canada).
Longer-range estimates are that this pattern will hold true for another couple weeks, and 1-4 more similar storms.
Icestorms. Suck.
Hope that anyone who ends up with one this cycle is as prepped as their circumstances allow them.

Don't confuse a belligerent and aggressive attitude with the strength, training, and conditioning needed to prevail in a fight. How do you know you have the Will To Win, if you don't even have the will to train?

Re: East Coast Snow Storm - Feb. 5th
We seem to be in the bullseye for this one; 16-24 inches and the current models show all snow (no sleet mixed in). Then on Sunday the temps drop and we'll have a week of the coldest temps so far this winter. Some models are showing the amount of moisture in the atmosphere could push this one over 30" which would make it the biggest in MD history.

Whatever you need if you can't get out for a few days and possibly lose utilities. You know, food, water, candles, kerosene heater, booze, books, cards, etc...Ruderpinne wrote:Yeah Ive picked up most things any thoughts on what to pick up?

Pre-storm, I do my dishes and laundry, vacuum, and shower. And de-clutter....a lot easier to function in clean dainties, and not trip over crap or be unable to find things.
