Montana Blizzard

Post by Stercutus » Sun Sep 29, 2019 7:02 am

While we are looking at highs in the 90s all week here in the Deep South, Montana is being buried under up to 4 feet of snow today. With wind gusts in the 60MPH range and temps in the teens it is going to be a cold and dangerous storm.

Weather has been weird this year up this way. The early snow isn't so unusual (definitely a lot for this time of year), but we've had very unsettled weather in general.

One of the coldest Februaries on record, a very cold and wet June, big swings in temp all summer (100 f high one day, 50 the next), damaging thunderstorms WAY later than usual, lot more rain all summer than usual, now early heavy snow.

Fingers crossed for a mild winter, but I'm not hopeful

Down in Idaho the other day we had clear skies, and the. Within a matter of minutes it was snowing so hard I could barely see the parking lot out my shop window. The I-15 heading up to Montana was shut down temporarily it was so heavy, and local potato farmers are rushing to get potatoes out of the ground before entire crops are ruined.
Idaho winters are always unpredictable, but this cold front definitely caught everyone me off guard.
