5- 10 Stager

11 - 19 Corpse

20 -29 Dread

30 - 39 Horde

40 + Legion

A mess of zombies? (if they're the decaying variety)

A marathon of zombies? (for the fast movers)

A herd of zombies? (hearing those zombies moaning and groaning in the movies always remind me of mooing cows)

Reading all the way through this, the ones that I liked the most were Romero to describe a high-population and Stagger to describe a low population. I would also like to add to the list: A Plop of Zombies to describe 2000+ zombies, as it sounds like what'd happen if you saw 2000+ comming your way.

Although my zombie character on www.urbandead.com is named James Shambler.

And how many make up a "kill it with fire" of zombies? A "shoot first, shoot some more, keep shooting untill you're sure it's dead, don't bother asking any questions" of zombies? Or a "nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure" of zombies?

I use "a gaggle" in place of "too many m-f's to count". Example; "Holy shit, there's a fuckin gaggle of zombies headed this way. It's definitely not cool to hang out here any more!"

I refer to a lot of stuff in military terms...
fireteam: 4
squad: 12
platoon: 36
company: 144

Anything over a company is a gaggle.

Lets say 20-50 is a shitload. Around a hundred it a fuckload. Much more than your ammo supply is a wefuckedload. As in "How many zeds you see out there private?" "Well sir, I see a lot, as in a wefuckedload."

"A Couple" zombies: 2 zombies
"A Few" zombies: three zombies
"Several" zombies: 4-7 zombies
"Many" zombies: 8-20 zombies
"A Lot" of zombies: 21-35 zombies
"A Ton" of zombies: 36-50 zombies
"Too many" zombies: 51-74 zombies
"Like, a hundred" zombies: 75-125 zombies
"Get To The Choppah" amount of zombies: 126-199 zombies
"I'll shall unleash my phonecorded magnetized katana against our foes to buy us some time" amount of zombies: 200-399 zombies
"I might need more rail gun rounds" amount of zombies: 400-649 zombies
"God, help us" amount of zombies: 650-1000 zombies
"Get to Mexico, put your backs against the Ocean" amount of zombies: 1001-1450 zombies
"We're doomed" amount of zombies: 1451-9000 zombies
"IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND!" zombies: 9001+ zombies

I like stagger but how about a clot as one of the possibilities?

Zombies seem to gather. How often do you see singles?
