Zombie Guns

Postby thegunsmith » Sat Mar 31, 2012 1:09 pm

I run a gun website; I also happen to be a huge Zombie fan.

I need a bit of input from the forum if anyone is willing:

I need to know what sucks, what doesn't; what needs to be added for the zombie section of my website.

If the post is in the section it involves zombies, even if it doesn't seem like it.

I would love to hear comments on making it a better user experience for other zombie fans...

my email is info@netgunsmith.com

The website is www.netgunsmith.com

The zombie specific category is at: http://www.netgunsmith.com/category/zombies/

Please, any constructive criticism helps. Hope you enjoy it.

This thread should probably be in Zombie Combat Tactics. I'd say it should be in Firearms under General Firearms Discussion, but Dave would just move it to ZCT anyway.

The zombie section doesn't really seem to have much to do with zombies. You've got some good content; the Metalstorm MAUL is new to me. I don't really have any criticism of it as a gun website, just that the "zombie" content feels really tacked-on. So, my advice, and I have a feeling this isn't the kind of advice you wanted is to:

1. Ask yourself, "Why should my gun website have a section about zombies?" (Hint: "Everyone else is doing it" isn't a good reason.)

2. If you can't come up with a good answer to #1, just strip off the "zombie" language and keep on running your gun website, sans zombies.

3. If you DO come up with a good reason for #1, then include an explanation of it on the "Zombies" page (i.e., "planning for zombies helps you plan for disasters, and 'zombie' can be loosely interpreted as meaning 'any situation of major, local, national, or global disaster or collapse requiring self-defense and self-reliance'") so your readers know why you're talking about zombies all of a sudden. Your mentions of zombies in each article should serve this purpose (not necessarily my example, but the reason you decide on).

4. Remember: a gun website that doesn't mention zombies, is not necessarily better or worse than one that does mention zombies. Do whichever one makes YOUR website better, or more what you want it to be.

Yeah, here's a criticism: lose the political bullshit, at least if you want any input from here. I'm staunchly pro gun and love anything zombie related. But I nearly choked on all the half truths, mud slinging and incendiary name calling strewn throughout everything under your "political" tab and sprinkled about elsewhere in your site.

Sites like yours are why I'm glad places like ZS exist.

Not exactly constructive...

Anyway, the things you are looking for in a zombie gun are IMO
1) availability of ammo
2) caliber, some people swear by a .22 but I prefer heavier caliber because it has more stopping power and the weapon is more ruggedly built to withstand the forces.
3) semi-automatic only
4) reliability under harsh conditions i.e. you want to be able pick it up from dropping it and it still be reliable even if a little dirt gets into the mechanisms (or water if you can swing it)
5) Tough stock, solid wood because if it's going to be your primary weapon, you want it to be able to eliminate a target if ammo is low and/or gets to close without ruining the weapon
6) tactical rails, more for being able to mount a tactical light and possibly a bayonet.
7) distance accuracy out to 30+ yards minimum
8) ease of maintenance
Dare you not mettle
in the affairs of dragons...
for you are crunchy and taste like chicken...
and come prepackaged with ketchup.

Hey how about a feature on the 6.8 spc? There's going to be cheap ammo coming next year from Tula and Federal, so the old complaint of ammo cost may no longer apply.
