Blue Mesa Shooting school: Anyone heard of it?

Post by FreuderLocks » Fri Aug 27, 2010 11:47 am

Im thinking of taking some classes from Blue Mesa Shooting in Montrose Colorado. Are there any members out there that know anything about the school and its courses? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Have a nice weekend all!

Never heard of it. If you end up going give a report. I'll be moving to Co. next month, about an hour north of Montrose. If it's good I'll look into going.

I've never heard of them, but I believe that Travis Haley lives near Montrose, CO.

So, if the wind is right, you might be able to pick up a whiff of Travis' musk during class so they might be worth checking out.

Well, my business partner and I went to Montrose Friday night and took an NRA basic pistol instructor course from Larry McWhirter at Blue Mesa Shooting Academy. I have to say the class was excellent. Larry is an excellent instructor and a valuable asset. Larry is a gunsight graduate, has worked with many state law enforcement agencies incuding the border patrol, WAPA (Western Agency Power Authority, they run Power Plants), many state and local police agencies including the State Patrol and a whole list of other agencies. The information he imparted to us was very valuable and incredibly helpful.

The class included one and a half days of classroom training and about 4 hours on the range. Mr. McWhirter teaches the classroom portion of the class in his home, where he has a private classroom with no distractions. There were only three of us in class but it worked out very well. Both myself and business partner scored %100 on the instructor exams, we're just waiting for the credentials to pass the NRA office within the next few weeks.

If anyone has any questions for me or my business partner about our experience at Blue Mesa Shooting Academy, please feel free to ask, We'd be happy to answer any of your questions.
