Just wanted to get your guys opinion on the gun.

I have an opportunity to get one brand new in the box for $110 bucks and it seemed like a pretty good deal.

Is that a good deal?

Are there any good articles that are "must reads" on the caliber. I personally have no experince with the caliber but have plenty of experince with .22LR.

What are the Pro's? Cons?

Main everyday uses? Plinking? Small gaming hunting?

SHTF uses? Hunting? Defense?

I like 22 mag as my alternate rimfire cartridge but I think I am in the minority there. What kind of action is it? For anything other than a break action single shot $110 is hard to go wrong with. NOTE: I like the Rossi break action single shots, but for near that price you could get one of the combos that also comes with a shotgun barrel.

Pretty sure it's a single shot, saw it in an ad in the paper today and that's all it says, Rossi .17 HMR..

Do they make a .17 HMR and a 20 GA combo?

If so, how much would it run?

.17HMR is an excellent round. I used to have a Savage .17HMR, and it was a tack driver. Truly a sub MOA round. 3/4" at 100 yards with CCI was the norm. It bucks the wind very well and has laser like trajectory compaired to .22lr. It's a great varmint round.

BUT......

It is pricey as hell. I guess for sub-MOA ammo $12 for 50 is a great value, but still, it hurts. For that price, I could be shooting 9mm. The only reason I got rid of mine was because it was so expensive to shoot. Just my .02

According to ammoengine, 12 bucks is the best price currently available. That works out to 24 cents a round, which is hella pricey for the role that gun would fill.

Is it worth the money to you?

Yup... the ammo is usually $13/50 round box. 22mag is usually about $10/50 rounds. The .17HMR is a necked down .22MAG so you get higher velocity with a smaller mass projectile. It is a little more susceptible to outside forces such as wind than the heavier bullets. For plinking, it is really spendy. For PAW small game hunting... same thing. You can do just as much hunting with a regular .22LR for a lot less price per shot, but .17HMR are quite a bit faster bullet...

Its around $15 a box here, and nobody sells it in bulk in stores at all.

I love my Savage 93r17, great rifle, you can drop high speed kill darts through the same tiny hole all day long.

It doesnt penetrate bunny rabbits and ground hogs as much as it blows them apart.

Well the more I think about it the more I'm leaning against it, I mean, of course I want the gun, but I can probably put that money to better use toward something more practical.

I currently have 3 .22lr rifles and 2 handguns........
