Several more people flown into Omaha and transported to the UNMC quarantine unit. Link to local news below. Might be some or all of the 14 positives that flew back from the Japanese cruise ship last night. Somewhat strange that it was two flights. I guess both flights that came from Japan then came to Omaha, wonder if someone started showing symptoms on the flight. Still no word on the test results from the woman that was taken from Camp Ashland on Friday. They have 20 beds in the quarantine unit and 10 in the biocontainment unit, so we probably have more room for the sick cases.

Edit: They mentioned in the press conference that the lady from Friday tested negative twice and was sent back to Ashland.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread
Based upon the rumors about the quarantine procedures on the ship, I'd suspect that moving all those folks to the US was design to stop the spread from ALL passengers on the ship.Aeacus wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 12:30 pmSeveral more people flown into Omaha and transported to the UNMC quarantine unit. Eh, the daily mail is pretty much a tabloid, so I'll believe it when I see a peer reviewed study of the virus or the Chinese government admits it (so probably never). Strange that they don't post the study or at least a link to it. The Indian study that tried to analyze the genome and claimed it was engineered was at least online for people to look at.the_alias wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 1:40 pmThey're pretty much admitting now this came from the lab in Wuhan.

One of the anchor's of CNBC is also big into this rumor and asks almost every guest leading questions about it. I'm skeptical because it fits a narrative almost too well. The fact that we are overdue for a flu pandemic and conditions are ripe in china\SE Asia (crowded cities, wet markets with freshly slaughtered wild animals). Conspiracy theory stuff is too often us trying to see the patterns in natural chaos...

I agree to skepticism on this item...
But I am not sure what I am more skeptical of:
1.) the article or;
2.)the probability that the PRC .gov would admit this, assuming it is true.
My guess is that there is higher probability of the article being true than there is of the PRC admitting they manufactured it.

Coronavirus wreaks havoc on Chinese food producers, sending inflation soaring
https://fortune.com/2020/02/15/china-co ... n-economy/
The coronavirus outbreak—now officially called COVID19, according to the World Health Organization—has driven many things in China down. With close to than 43,000 in the country infected and more than a thousand dead, factory output, consumer spending, tourism, and commodity prices have seen major drops.
One thing that is soaring? Inflation. China's overall consumer price index (CPI), which had been at 1.5% in January 2017 and between 2% and 3% during most of 2019, leaped to 5.4% in January 2020.

The British super spreader who infected a family in France has been released and is fine:
And a British man hospitalized in Japan is also recovered:A British family who contracted coronavirus at a French ski resort have been discharged from hospital, the French health minister, Olivier Véran, has said.
The British nationals, including a nine-year-old child, caught the virus from Steve Walsh, a British man who traveled to the Contamines-Montjoie resort from a conference in Singapore, where he got the coronavirus.
The family were hospitalised in Grenoble, and CNN reports Véran as saying:
All of the patients that were hospitalised in Grenoble were able to leave the hospital. Thus the family that were infected, an English family, the father and his son were able to leave the hospital in Grenoble. They are no longer considered to be sick or carriers of the virus.
A British man who was diagnosed with coronavirus on the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan will be discharged from hospital tomorrow.
Alan Steele, who announced the news on Facebook, said he will wait in the country until he can be reunited with his wife, Wendy, and they can travel home together.
The couple, who were celebrating their honeymoon on the ship, were separated on 7 February when Alan was diagnosed with the virus and taken to a nearby hospital.
Although the ship’s quarantine officially ends on Wednesday, new guidelines mean anyone who shared a cabin with a person who has tested negative for the virus will face another two weeks on board.
Alan has now tested negative for the virus, and says he is looking forward to eating at the McDonald’s near the cruise terminal.

Seems like a big few days in growth of the virus.
South Korea spikes cases
Iran comes out of nowhere with 2 dead immediately and cases
Italy has more cases and is asking for people to lock themselves down in villages...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread
Considering that this thread opened Jan 4 2020 the number of deaths now showing up in other countries does make sense. The virus has a ~2 week latency period. Couple that with the fact people generally die from the complications it causes, so they do not simply do a Hollywood style instant death and zombification. One would assume that would take another couple of weeks.
Then an autopsy and lab report delays followed by reporting delays one would expect another 2 weeks for that to elpase. So Feb 15ish is about right for a spike in death reports.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread
Looking at a few flu reporting parts of state CDC websites is interesting.
https://www.azdhs.gov/preparedness/epid ... nza-season
Looks like a spike?
Colorado says https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/influenza
Are those elevated numbers from baseline statistically interesting? Be interesting to see what happens end of this week and next week

Yeh, but as we aren't getting accurate numbers or reporting on this 'flu like' viruses are good things to monitor. Do we see a huge uptick in people REPORTING to hospitals for influenza like symptoms?raptor wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2020 5:57 pmYes that is the regular influenza...not the Kung Flu...and the regular influenza is rampaging throughout the US.

Might be an indicator.
Again CDC is NOT testing many people at all.
UK has pased 5000 tested, 200 a day almost. We've not yet tested 500 I think...
