I wear a wool sweater, a military fleece middle layer and a goretex parka. Head gear is a fleece beanie and if really cold a wool watchcap over that. I also wear fleece machanics gloves. I have to walk to work inthe morning around 6am for 'bout half mile. In the winter it can get -10* with the wind. So far, I've been toasty.

So I spent a lot of time looking and have narrowed it down to either the 782 Rouge Parka
http://www.782gear.com/perimeter.html

or the Columbia Peak 2 Peak jacket:

what do you think?

WOW. $350 for the civ jacket, $450(with the option to break $500) for the mil-type...

Now I remember why I shop Ebay for gear! My APECS jackets were under $200!

Which color were you considering? Aside from this upcoming winter camping trip where were you going to use this jacket? From your avatar I'll guess that you are either still on active duty or a recently returned vet.

If you are not, buying and wearing the multi-cam parka will make you look very mall ninja. If you are still on active duty or a PMC and may be heading to Afghanistan for a winter then the Rouge parka hands down.

If your eyes are blue, get the Colombia parka, it will really make them stand out!

I have very lovely brown eyes thank you very much...

Price isn't an issue I just want something that's bomb proof...I got a civ jacket for when at home...this would be only used for camping or on contracting work

Dang triple canopy must be paying well. The online pull down menu in the Perimeter Rouge parka said Coyote Brown was available. Get that one.

Contracting/consulting has its benefits but if you have a family its not the easiest thing for them. I am single so I dont have those concerns...

OT: ill post up pics and a review of whatever I decide to get.

If you're going to buy two, make one of them the blue REI parka, there will be times where you might need to look more like an NGO staffer than a PMC.

I did end up with the 782 Rouge Parka. It is shipping to me now as we speak. Ill do a full review and post it up here when I get it. I will probably still end up purchasing a civ colored jacket as well. Thanks for all the advice and help.

Most places have a size chart. I would say a large/regular or large/short would be more then big enough for you. if you want it more form fitting then lose a medium...just check the size charts before you order. I always go larger just so I can layer more underneath.
