Find a small bag that will fit back there. Basic survival gear doesn't take up too much space, it's the bottles of water, food, etc. that gets bulky.

A small kit with fire tools, a knife, a way to sharpen it, water purification, emergency poncho, emergency bivy, etc. then stuff bottles of water in every other nook and cranny.

I'd hazard a guess it and a friend or two would fit behind a truck seat as well. :D

And while we're at it we might as well throw it's big brother into the mix...

At just over 4" thick, the standard would fit for sure. Just don't stuff it so it's all bulgie like a fat guy (like me) in a unitard and you'll be good to go.

Here's an example: (NSFW, or those with weak stomachs)

NO!

Crypto, is that you?

Also probably a no...

I'll give this a tentative yes, even though the color is not tactical.

No coding the images in. Don't click, and thank me later

Excellent find Tetra Grammaton Cleric!

There are many different options out there for your specific purpose dynomike and there seems to be some good suggestions so far from people here, but I am liking Tetra's find the best because it seems it can fit under the seat if not behind the seat of a single cap truck.

I used to carry one similar to that in my Dodge under the seat and it worked out fine.

As stated by:

You don't need a whole lot to get by with in a pinch, it is essentially that water and food that takes up the most space, but you can purchase emergency drinking water packets that don't take up a whole lot of space but will do the job in a pinch.

Thank you all for your help. That Comm bag looks especially promising. Since I don't leave Boise much, that would work and having a little bit of food (couple of power bars, jerky strip, stripped MRE) and water pouches would do the job well. And when I do leave town, the BOB usually gets thrown in the trunk bed or the trunk of the wife's car. Thank you again!

Old school ALICE butt pack would work well, too. Depending on which generation you get, they have a couple sets of strap downs, some d-rings, and webbing for other ALICE pouches, including canteens. The two d-rings on the back are handy for attaching a shoulder strap and the strap downs can hold a rolled poncho or similar item.

That is another excellent find!
I, myself, don't have a vehicle BOB or emerceny supplies in place at the moment because I just totaled my car back on 2/23/12 and still need to get my belongings out of the car 79 miles west of where I live, but I am in the market for a pick-up, hopefully with an extended cab, not a 4 door but just an extended cab where I can fit a BOB that will suit my needs in the case I do get stranded far from home when/if a tornado or other natural disaster like a wildfire or flash flood strikes.
I don't know in what shape my vehicle emergency bag is in in my car in the wreck yard, but I hope to salvage some of what was in it and I think one of the two bags already presented here, by both tetra grammaton and ghost here.
I like the styles and they appear to be just the right dimensions for what I myself am looking for.

Glad you found some help here in the thread :)

WOW!
I must admit... that is a little more than just impressive!
If SHTF while you were on the road away from home, I don't think there is any doubt in my mind that you would not have your ass covered and be able to help others in need out as well.
Very impressive.

Reminds me to set something up in my County Comm EOD bag for my Mazda B Series (Ford Ranger essentially).

How I have it set up now is I got one of them rear seat organizers and it is randomly packed with some tools, road atlas, flares, orange vest, hat, gloves, poncho. Keeps crap from rolling around behind my seats.

I need to do some late spring cleaning on my truck though so I oughta get back there and clean it up some and reorganize and I was thinking this last week and rtemebered I have a CC EOD bag laying around that is not getting used.

This is my bag/kit. I have two big tubs that I keep locked under the tonneau covers on the home made bedslide of the Avalanche as well with a wool blanket, case of water, kettle, stove, first aid kit (extensive), 20x20 tarp, bright orange rain poncho, tool bag, hatchet, machete and a few other things.

I also have a seat organizer with various maps, booboo first aid kit, pens, notepad, tire gauge and a few garbage bags.

Image

Contents of the main bag:
Brazos "tactical" summer boots
socks x2 (Nike DriFit)
Columbia convertible ripstop pants (legs zip off to shorts) Grey
OWB holster for the Sig
Riggers belt
T-shirt (long sleeve Columbia dry wick) Green
fleece pullover (lighweight) Realtree AP
Two canteens of water (outside)
10 feet of paracord (outside)
50 feet of paracord (inside)
5x8" tarp
hygiene kit
1 stripped MRE
2 Nature valley bars
Saline in four 20ml tubes
Filter straw
6" knife
4 bottles of water (augmented by the case of water in the bins)
18"x50" strip of t-shirt material (shemagh-ish)
boonie hat
Headlamp
2 lighters
matches in waterproof container
vaseline soaked cotton balls
kryptonite cable lock
1/2 roll duct tape
4 garbage bags

Breakout bag attached to bottom of the main pack:
1 stripped MRE
2 Nature valley bars
Saline in four 20ml tubes
Filter straw
4 nitrile gloves
quickclot
Bushnell compact binos
2 4oz emergency water packets
bic lighter
vaseline cotton balls
30ft paracord
couple bandaids
duct tape (1/2 roll)
kerlix
1 garbage bag

The Maxpedition Jumbo (EDC bag)
Steel water container
4 packets of emergency water (4oz each)
230 lumen LED flashlight
20 lumen LED penlight
ID Cards
Cash
3 padlocks (work related)
Sig SP2022 and 2 extra mags
Rand McNally pocket road atlas (US)
Sweat band (work)
Mechanix Wear mPact gloves (work)
Kershaw Chive knife

As some of you MAY know, the Avalanche has quite a few "hidden" compartments. In the hidden compartments I have an additional 500 rounds of 9mm, 50 rounds of buckshot...and a mossberg maverick with a slipon stock sidesaddle and basic sling. I went with the Mav because I bought it on sale for $160 and I am not comfortable leaving the AR in the truck. Maybe some day I'll build a cheap AR or perhaps purchase a Sub2K.

This bag is actually an extended get home bag. Since Phoenix is so large, it is not uncommon for me to be 25+ miles from home. This kit will give me a couple days to get back home. You can also see that I can lighten the load up by pulling off the canteens and wearing them on my belt, and transferring a few things to the Maxpedition, which also has a loop to secure it to my belt so it does not bounce much if I have to jog/run.

My EDC is a Buck folder, Sig 2022 IWB, iPhone 4s, P3AT in pocket, car keys with a swiss army tool connected to it and Oakley sunglasses.

I could probably just decide to take off and go camping with what I load around with me everywhere...you should see the Avalanche packed up for a bugout...oh wait, here you go! 8-)
