Maxpedition Sabercat Versipack

Postby good2btheking70 » Sun May 06, 2012 1:52 pm

Hi good morning wherever you are,

I am looking at posibly buying one of these as part of a BOB system and I wanted to see first what all you fine folks have to say about this item. What I am looking for from here is if anyone has one of these please show some pics of the one you have and why you use it and what you use it for. I am just trying to get some feedback here before I go out and get one. These come in diferent colors such as foilage black, foilage green, dark earth...all the cool earth tone colors. These are not cheap by all means either.

I dont have any pics to post so if anyone out there is kind enough to do the honors would greatly appreciate it. I saw a guy using one of these and he uses it as a fanny pack here locally and should of asked if I could take a picture of it. Anyways, hope to see some good feedback...thanks in
advance.

Here's a link to check out. Two Wolves had some of the best prices on Maxpedition gear and they give great service.
Every cloud has a silver lining. Except the mushroom-shaped ones which have a lining of Iridium and Strontium-90.

I have one. I used it to carry all manner of things. Generally it holds the standard fair of EDC gear, a full size DSLR, and a netbook.

I never used it in "Fanny-pack" mode but instead attached a shoulder strap to the built in d-rings.

I have since moved on to the Versipack Mongo, mostly because of the inclusion of a nalgene holder and a better shoulder strap.

The Sabercat is now my grab and go overnight bag.

You're right, they aren't cheap. But they are nice quality. Wait until you see LA Police gear have one of their 20% off coupons or something.

pic help because I'm bored.

Anyway, I have the proteus seen here

I use it to strap to the bottom of my edc pack when I use it for more serious hikes for extra room for supplies. Dunno what info exactly you want, but maxped is pretty bombproof, functions as advertised in general, costs kind of a lot, and people either love it, hate it, or are indifferent

If you've seen one in person and feel the size is right, you'll likely have no complaints quality-wise etc

I have a couple Maxped bags and absolutely love em. I use the Gleneagle Messenger bag and the Mongo versipack that I got from Two Wolves. I love them both a lot. The Gleneagle is big. Like Practical Joke big and can carry everything I need for work (Hardhat, Fire resistant Clothing, Gloves, Goggles Computer and Lunch) and the Mongo is my go to Day hiking bag that can cover all my bases if weather gets nasty or I have to spend a night outside. They both have some awesome features and the only complaints I have about either one is that I have a tendency to overload them and make them waaaaaay too heavy. A buddy of mine was looking at the sabercat but decided to go with a versipack just for the added features and he didn't wanna be carrying a fanny pack. My advice to you is to get what you feel is the best for your situation. I don`t like buying without handling the object first but have with Maxped Twice and haven`t regretted it yet.

Here is a youtube video that shows the Sabercat being used with a Falcon-II. I think it makes for an awesome system. He also adds suspenders to the Sabercat to make it more managable. This guy had a few different videos that deal with the Sabercat.

Hope this helps.

I have a few Maxpedition bags, including a Sabercat. The Sabercat is very nice, it's quite larger than the proteus and it's more comfortable I find. I use it as a get home bag, I keep it in my truck and it serves as a great bag for a few items. It does have two D rings on both sides for a shoulder strap, but it does not come with one. I like the fact that there is molle webbing on the waist strap, which is something you usually only see on larger backpacks. The compression straps allow for enough room to fit a small sleeping bag or tent, I currently have a Tarp strapped in. It also has compression straps on the sides, which is a nice addition, as you can keep other items between the straps and the pack, I currently have a small camping cup attached to the compression strap on the right side. Overall it's a nice pack and it holds more than you would think. I might actually get another one as an additional pack for my disaster kit.
