Sorry to hear about your injured foot Woods. It's a good thing you didn't need to run from the bear. (He must not have gotten the Memo that you were a slow target! LOL)

I'm still working on my latest entry. I'm finished with the actual Bug Out, but I have to re-shoot another photo that is crucial to the story. I will have it done by next weekend and I think everyone is going to like it.

This entry will be an Urban Bug Out, starting in town and having to get away from the Zombies and out to a friend's home a few miles away from town.

I can't wait to finish this and get it posted. I've been working on this entry for the past few weeks, but my work (working out of state) has kept me from getting it done and I had to do it in stages.

Been meaning to do an urban bug out for the last few contests D= (woops...), so I'm glad someone else went ahead and Just Did It. Looking forward to your entry.

The herder's possibles bag looks like a Finnish gas mask bag! I just built one and have been carrying one myself.

Re Blackdog entry and gear notes:

Having done the bladder IN the ruck for the past 4-5 years I too hate digging that sucker in and out to refill it unless I am in camp. It's why I still use the hell out of bottles and the bladder is secondary. I use it mostly to have drinking water in camp while bottles do all the utility work.

I like that Helle knife. Don't need a new knife now but if I was to get one that is the Helle I was looking at.

Dromedory bags - don't have one, been wanting one for years. I think a 4 litre would be nice.

ETA: Can you easily get those Via packets? If not PM me and let me know. My fiance and future BiL are at Starbux so I have the "inside" on those.

In the west side of our states, I prefer to carry 3 litres on me. I can bring that out to 5 litres if need be. 2 liters minimum but I always try to have 3 liters going and ready at all times. Of course I can make more and, as you know, we can trip over streams if we really want to in our neck of the woods.

The main reason I want a 4 liter bladder is for in camp use. It can get tedious to be hitting up the stream over and over again. I carry it empty. Get to camp, fill it up, am good for a bit.

Thats about what i do. I have my camelback to use when on the move, my 2quart to fill the camelbak up when it runs dry, then my two 1 quarts to use on my LBE in case i get sperated from my packs. I figure the 3l nalgene will be for in camp use.

I filled the bladder once at the start, drank it and never used it again on this little walk. Plenty of water this outing which isn't always the case. Because there was plenty of running water I didn't have to worry about the mutts so worked only from bottles. They can in fact slug down some water. Between the 2 of them they can pretty much knock out (or spill) a litter per drinking session on a hot day. I only filled the drome just before finding my camp site for the night. Where the drome really shines is in the desert when you are really and truly not 100 percent sure where the next water hole is.

I like that Helle knife. Don't need a new knife now but if I was to get one that is the Helle I was looking at.

I didn't really need the damn knife yet here it is. So far so good. One of these days I have to get rid of a few.

Dromedory bags - don't have one, been wanting one for years. I think a 4 litre would be nice.

See above. I will say the MSR drom is a pretty good piece of gear. I did once manage to break the little flip up cap out in the Utah boondocks but other than that it has given me years of service.

Ha, I probably have enough VIA for a couple more years. They gave me a double take when I pushed my basket to checkout last time I got to visit a REI. But for real thanks for the offer.

Taking a longer look at that pic, It's not a Finnish gas mask bag. Those have D rings on the back side that the shoulder strap connects to. The bag in the pic looks like they're just sewn on to the sides (preferable really). I love those kinds of pics though.

Well the big girl may be a pet but she is also straight off the mountain with a long history of watching over a flock and I like to give her plenty of room and time to move. Kind of like my living gym and guardian all in one.

Like all things in the Balkans there is a ongoing pissing contest over these dogs, go figure.

Kind of long but hey, take it or leave it.

Yeah I wasn't going to say anything. I have another picture of it and the language looks like maybe Serbian, which would kind of make sense.

Edit to add pic.

WW, I really liked your Osprey set-up from your latest MBO. BTW, was that a homemade hobo stove? The "volcano" design is boss. Now, go spike that sumac-aid and give your foot some rest :D

It is made of SS. Small enough to pack but large enough to work as a campfire.

Yeah,,,, the old country. No parks, no rules, very few marked in any way trails - none of which are on any existing map that I can find, no camp grounds I would stay in and no telling exactly when a detour is going to be required.
