Did I miss the end date of the contest? What's the cut off?

Lousy pic, I know, but I would be happy to add 1-3(Win/place/also ran?) of these fairly decent Mikov knives to the pot. I ended up with a box full of them 12 years ago when getting a crate of other stuff and have been slowly giving them away. They do hold a good edge once you work on them a bit...

Well there I was rolling up last years change pile, wondering if I should document this as part of my bug out prep..... It wasn't as much as I thought, but with the promise of a pay check and gas money to make a run north, I ordered a Ti goat cylinder stove, sent to a post office on my way, to pick up on the fly. I'll be hitting my Tri state locker for dried goods, (hoping the rats didn't eat to much), and Then head north. I'll bring the gear I've got, and hopefully augment from the northern cache, but cant depend on access. I'll sing for my supper, Let some one know where I'm going and how long to wait before worrying, and pray for SNOW NOT RAIN!

I can donate a small prize or two (probably some Zombie Targets/Posters or ZS gear).

Also, I figure it should be asked, but.... Does Wintergeddon Count? I will be out with ZSC001 next week, even though this will be a group event.

I think that is some what covered with the proposed minimum hike requirement.

I am going to also offer a prize as well. I am going to provide a firesteel, soft magnesium bar, and striker to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. I will ship international as long as it doesn't violate hazmat rules. I will work something out in the event of a shipping problem with the winners.

I can only hope when I got out, I get a cold snowy weekend.

I am going to end up camping not in the spot I am going to hike and hunt all day... that shouldn't be against the rules. I mean, you're putting your time in, either way, you would think.

that should be acceptable as long as the gear you use fits inside the BoB. it should be fairly easy to tell a camp that was supplied out of a vehicle.

however, this is Darkside's contest so i think he should ultimately make this decision.

Actually, for the last few years, ZSC001 has had to hike about 3 miles through the woods to get to their camping spot. I will try to capture all of this with pix and video... if it isn't too cold to do so (last year, our cameras were so damn cold, they wouldn't f#cking work). This year, it looks to be in the single digits for HIGHS and well into the negatives for the lows.

If not, I will do a separate one a week or so later. Seriously, my gear would already be out.

Side note: My Uncle is coming out to ZSC:001's Wintergeddon. He is going OLD SCHOOL with 18th century clothing/gear. If he pulls it all off, that f#cker should be winning a prize.

Good play on the vest and gaiters.

I Appreciate the comments guys! WW, those gaiters came in handy after that little skiff of snow came down.
when we got off the hill it had dumped about 12 inches +.

it is required by law to own at least three vests in wyoming and 2 of them need to be carharts and covered in tobacco spit.

You would be hard pressed to find me without a vest in cool weather. As for dip and smokes I quit cold turkey a few months ago. I am packing up right now for this weekend and with luck will beat the storm to the trail which is about 70 miles from the house. If the snow holds off long enough for the ride I will probably have to walk all day and setup in the weather. Maybe spend two nights in camp and hike out. It all depends on the weather as I don’t mind it in the woods but hate the roads.

The 4-man tipi is too high. I am packing a Paratipi for this trip as won't be using the sled. Hiking poles will work there but with the weather I would only use one for the back pole.

group camping with your ZS chapter will count in my book. ( see below )

BTW - if your uncle pull that off he IS a badass! BUT for him to be considered he will need to offically enter the contest. all that means is he would need to become a memebr of ZS and post his trip. i have no problem if you help him set that up, but his trip will need to be HIS and it would need to be a seperate entry. sound fair?

if you need to drive to your BOL / campsite thats fine with me. the way i see it ALL of us plan on driving to a bug out location if SHTF and we need to leave home, but at some point in time you may be forced to walk. if you chose a BOL / campsite that is close to your parking area ( like at a state park ) then you should still hike your camp area ( most campgrounds have trails ). others may park at a trail head and hike to their BOL / campsite. basically you should incorperate some amount of hiking in your entry.

i dont have a problem with that if you are spening the time outside hiking / hunting and camping outside ( if you shoot something we wanna se it! lol )

wyo nailed it on the head. folks, we want to see bug out camping from a bug out bag. we dont want to see bug out camping from a well stocked bug out vehicle. that would be to easy!

Great idea for a contest Mr. Dark.... looks like it's heading in the right directions so far!

The rules look to be on par, I wouldn't change them.
I'm a cold-blooded mofo, so it's unlikely that I will enter into this one... unless some craziness happens on my end.
Still workin' on winter gear setups for us, and it's hard to convince the GF to winter camp.... let alone understand my fascination with heated shelters.

Good stuff!

so it looks like the guidelines work for everyone so, we will go with what has been posted. :)

i will start the official " winter bug out contest " tomorrow night. i will also repost the rules on that thread ( but will clean up the format just a bit )

your judges have been picked. thanks to the guys who have offered up their time and services!!!

special thanks to all the guys who have offered up prizes!!! :D PLEASE SEND ME A PM SO I CAN BUILD A LIST OF PRIZES. once i get a response from everyone i will post the list in the "guideline" post on the contest thread.

the prize list for this contest is EPIC! if the prizes for this contest dont motivate folks to get out and test their gear and skills then i dont know what will...

5 - you will need to spend at least 24 hours outside. your trip should include some amount of hiking with your gear / pack strapped to your back.

I have an issue with #5

I have a back injury that limits me from hiking (or even walking) I can get to most remote places by my suv though & camp off in the woods from there. So can I still particpate ??
