Just received a vintage Stanley Yankee 03-043 Push Drill with the original 8 Bits

This picture is from Garret Wade and not the drill I actually got, using this pic just as an example.
Image

These are great long lasting drills that use no power except your own. Great for tossing into my INCH pack. I actually ordered 2 one for my pack and one to use at home, the onther one is a Stanley Yankee 41Y Bell System. These were originally issued to Bell Telephone workers.

I grew up using a Yankee Handyman push drill my Mom had, and still has and uses 30 years later. But when I grew up and started collecting tools, I couldn't find any Yankee drills. Turns out, around 10 years ago Stanley discontinued manufacture of the Yankee drill due to the popularity of battery powered cordless drills. So no wonder I couldn't find them in stores! They had become hard to find even before they were discontinued, then they disappeared completely. And the only way to get one was to find a vintage one for sale.

Now days though if someone doesn't want to go the vintage route, you can find new ones at Garrett Wade (though if you shop well you can get a vintage Yankee drill for 1/2 the price of a new one), who is also one of the few who sells replacement bits for these amazing drills.

If your interested in these cool vintage drills and want more info check out this page for a bit more info

Be careful with those...the tritium is only good for about 12 years before it dies...not affecting the compass, just your ability to read it. Most low cost tritium compass are like that cause the tritium rods have quit glowing.
Good point, and something I didn't think about prior to buying. The tritium is definitely dim. No biggie really, compass works fine and was $20. Even the phosphorescent models are more than that. I'm still pleased with my purchase.

Not sure if it qualifies as BOB kit, since it'll be living in the car boot, but I just ordered this.

Wanted a Ruger 10/22 Takedown but they are hard to come by up here right now. This was my next choice until I find one.

Savage .17 HMR

http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/93R17FSS" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also picked this up as it was cheap and didn't weigh but just over 8 lbs.

Coleman Pine Valley 3 person dome tent

http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/coleman-7x6 ... t/10191637" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Edited because I put Remington instead of Ruger. :oops:

Tru Spec Pants

Post by GearJedi » Sun Jul 28, 2013 11:31 am

Went on a buying rampage and bought some cool stuff. Really love Tru spec pants & jackets they have always done well for me.

I've had bad experiences with some of ht eonline vendors but these guys have done me right http://www.chiefsupply.com/tru-spec" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I grabbed a few pairs of the tru spec 24/7 pants
http://www.chiefsupply.com/tru-spec-atl ... s-men.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I LOVE the built in knee pad pockets, it's awesome for when working on the ground, attending your fire, pulling water from the creek etc. I do wish they had knife patches to prevent wear there.. but what can you do. IMO these are wayyyyyyyyy better than any 5.11 pant, but I must admit i haven't tried any of their latest stuff. anything better than these out there?

Tru-Spec® 65/35 Poly/Cotton Ripstop Men's Pants are N.T.O.A. member tested and recommended. Unique pocket design and configuration allows for a completely casual appearance while providing secure storage for all of your duty requirements.

Comfort fit slider waistband construction eliminates the need for gathered elastic or adjustable side tabs that accommodates either paddle style or inside-the-pants holsters
Extra-deep front pockets
Customized Tru-Spec original Prym® snap
2 Knife/accessory pockets
2 Cargo pockets with hook-and-loop closure and bellowed side gussets
2 Internal magazine compartments in both cargo pockets
Cell phone/magazine pocket
Engineered dimensional fit
Double-reinforced knees with built-in knee pad pockets
Material: 65/35 Poly/Cotton Ripstop

I like the Wildcat. I got it for my dad for deer hunting, as he wanted to start bow hunting(his arthritis won't let him use compounds) That thing can whip some bolts FAST. If it was legal here, i'd totally hunt with one(too young).
