Here's a few pictures of my MSR Mutha Hubba and a tarp that I "made" and I'm about to retire it for a nicer one.

This was taken while swinging in the hammock. I steadied my hand as much as possible during the shot.
Image

Another shot during an an earlier trip where it was cold and wet. I failed to pitch it too tight which kinda sucked with the light rain.
Image

Inside view of the Mutha Hubba. Got the woobie to keep me and my g/f warm :)
Image

The tarp. It really needed some grommets in the middle so the pitch could be tighter. It also keep sliding down the ridge line and kinda bunching up near the ends.

Marmot Limelight. Bought from REI on a big sale, I think I paid around $250 for it, its an awesome tent. You can take the tent down without taking the rainfly down if you set up both tent and rainfly. I used the tent and fly but I decided to take pictures of just the fly and footprint halfway through taking it down, which is why the guylines and fly arent tight and uniform. About 4 1/2 lbs alltogether, and about 2.5-3lbs with only fly, poles, footprint, and stakes. Very backpackable and very simple, 3 poles that could be made from artifical sources if required.

Edit: This tent is on sale at REI till OCt 18th for $160

Oh noes, the black helicopters! Haha; that looks like a really cool place to camp though, and you gotta admit a blackhawk sounds pretty damn cool.

A Northwest Territories I've had for probably 16 years, still use it from time to time.
Image

Browning Obsidian 10x9. I think Slumberjack made this. Good Lord it's big and heavy. Here it is at the NNYWCT09, the only time I've bothered to use it.
Image

Sportsmans Guide Bivy Tent. I think I paid 25 bucks. Packs compact, weighs little, and sleeps warm down to -15F. Never got a chance to use it in the rain tho.

Image

DD Traveler's Hammock, pitched without tarp. I don't think I've camped in a tent since I bought this. This was at the NNY Paddlefest 1.

Image

DD again, pitched with DD tarp in tight quarters. NNY Paddlefest 2. The DD has a waterproof, double-layer bottom and is designed to be used as a bivy tent when trees are lacking. Also you get the smug satisfaction of being different from all those HH-hangers :)

Ok, finally found a great deal on a used tarptent! Here are some pics of my Cloudburst, set up in the wilds of my backyard...

Image

and finally, a pic I took last week in the Ozark Nat'l Forest at 7am, after a night in the woods. The tent weighs in at 2pounds 10oz with the groundsheet.

Nice DaveJohns. How much does something like that go for?
Does your BOB at least have: water, basic tools, fire, food, first-aid kit, and shelter?

I got it for $150 shipped, with 6 Ti stakes, ground pad, ready to go. Depending on which model you want, you can buy one brand new for $200-$295 at Henry Shires' Tarptent website. I am probably getting a double rainbow after the holidays, its about the same weight, but a side-entry, which will probably work better for my old bones.

One thing about Tarptents; they are single wall silnylon. I think WW has touched on this before, but they have a bit of a problem with condensation and they will "mist" a little in a heavy rain. If you look at the pics, you can see the mesh all the way around the tent in an effort to help with condensation.(yea, it can be closed off, but it is best not to unless it is really pouring) I currently use a synthetic sleeping bag, so a little water coming in is no problem. The weight savings (as well as the bug protection!) are well worth it.

All my tents use sticks instead of tent stakes these days to save weight, and I use a Polycro ground sheet with my tarp-tents that adds a 10th of a pound to my weights listed below....here they are, enjoy. (And thanks for everyone else sharing!)

This is the Ray-Way (http://www.rayjardine.com/ray-way/Tarp-Kit/index.htm) tarp kit I made w/ my mother. It is 106" by 92" when pitched normally. Plenty for two people comfortably. Finished tarp weighs 14.86 oz, plus 1.9 oz for the lineset, plus the seam-sealing. (1.1 - 1.3 lbs, ready to pitch)

It compacts down nice and small:
Image

Here it is pitched normally:
Image

Here it is in the Adirondacks doing winter duty:
Image
Image

Here is my Go-Lite poncho. (Thx for the lead Woods Walker) It comes in at 0.6875 lbs (11oz) when seam sealed and ready to pitch:
Image

Here it is pitched with one side down to the wind:
Image

And last, but not least, my Coleman Cimmeron for car camping, works great at 10x7. It went to the Ozarks last summer w/ the ex because she wanted protection from the boogie man. Don't ask me how much it weighs. :p

I love all the pics you guys have from the winter trips. I got a laugh from the nice camp chair just sitting out there in the snow. I can picture it now; sitting in my camp chair, looking at the pristine winter stillness, wondering what the f&*% I got myself into...

Wow nice tents and great to see those winter camping shots too. Also nice job on that Golite poncho tarp setup.

Two new to me tents I picked up at the MEC gear swap a month and a bit ago:
Image

The tent on the left is a MSR Fusion 2, (2 person, 3 pole free-standing) I've seen it listed as both a 3 season and 4-season tent. Tested it out last weekend dropped down to -12C Saturday night and I did ok. After a creative repack in a 12L compression sack, I think it may become my main tent, until I wear it out. Not sure how much life it has left, I bought it well used for $30.

The tent on the right is an Exped Aries Mesh, (2 person, 2 pole non-free-standing). Definitely a 3 season tent only, but quite a bit lighter than the MSR next to it and much more spacious. Looking forward to packing that one down come spring and getting out with it.

This is my REI half dome. I got it at Goodwill for three dollars. It goes with me as a bike tent. West Virginia

Image
This is camping on the Illinois River. There is another hammock somewhere else. Hammocks work great on the river.

Image
Winter camping with friends on bikes. REI again (with the prayer flags) It turns out that snow is not as slick to ride on as mud or wet leaves... Spoon river valley, IL

Image
Geodesic dome I built. I took it on vacation for a crash/nap place for our camp. It's a 2 freq 16 foot made with 3/4 inch conduit. (smash and drill) Everyone brought extra air mattresses and pillows and then it just came together. Great spot for a nap. western New York in July.

Image

Yes we had one. Yes it was ugly. Yes it was warm dry and roomy. Some SCA event at a park with wet ground.

Image

Burning Man. 100 foot parachute for shade. Tents under the parachute. RVs parked all around for a wind break. It worked out great, and the wind that year on the last night hit over 110 mph.

Tall (over 100 ft) central mast, about 20 12 foot masts around the outside. about a million stakes...

View up.

Cauldron, awesome dome thing. I'm jealous, and it looks right out of the wastelands of the PAW too :P

Also pretty awesome burning man setup. It'd be cool to go sometime I think.
