AlPS Mountaineering Desert Pine +20 Sleeping Bag - available in Short only - $22.93 + shipping.
http://www.rei.com/product/812621/alps- ... _-10456937

Now I think this makes WAY more sense for those lil' preppers in your life than the overweight, under-insulated and cheaply-constructed kiddie themed bags you'd find Walmart and Target. And at this price, you're not likely to save much buying from the big box stores anyway.
Big enough to fit them into their teens, this is a true adult featured bag with quality synthetic fill, off-set double layer construction, a honest to gosh draft tube along the full length zipper and it comes with a compression stuff sack.
FYI: I don't have direct experience with ALPS Mountaineering. As near as I can tell, they're a medium quality outdoor goods manufacturer. Based on the specs for this and their other gear, they seem to catering to the value-oriented outdoor enthusiast who knows what they're shopping for. Their tents for instance, come equippped with shock corded poles made of aluminum alloy instead of fiberglass, which I've always found to be an indication the company is aiming a bit higher than bottom of the heap.
Note this item does not ship for free. Orders over $50 do however, so a pair of these plus a filler item will get it to your door. Alternatively, if you live near an REI store, you can select the free ship to store option. Although I assure you it is quite impossible to walk into an REI store and buy only what you went there for.
FYI: if you have a daughter between the ages of 10 and 16 and get one of these embroidered with "Hunger Games", or "Katniss" you're a shoe-in for parent of the year.

51tactical.com is running some of their VTAC MOLLE compatible gear In OD green for way less then retail.
I got a double stacked mag pouch(es) for $10, along with a 6x6 admin pouch for $10 to add to my TT MAV. Along with a bunch of other stuff.
I know theres a lot of hate for 5.11 sometimes, but Ive been pretty happy with the VTAC molle stuff so far. Its 1000D nylon and pretty decent velcro....

you have to select od green from the color menu, but it then drops the double mag pouch, the 6x6 admin pouch, and the nalgene water pouch down to $10 apiece from the original price.... I dont know how many other VTAC items are like that, but those three sure are!!

Thanks, just placed an order... I did see a few other items that were cheaper in "OD", but was out-of-stock.... Like the 10.6 Pouch (Horizontal) Product #: 58716. Any other color is $29.99, but in OD $13.00....
Thanks again for the hidden Easter eggs...lol

REI is blowing their Asolo Navigator 60 Elle travel packs, regularly $210 for $60.93. This item will ship free. Best competing price I could find online was $165.
http://www.rei.com/product/822601/asolo ... _-10456937

It takes a prepper to see the potential here, but I can't help notice that the detachable toiletry bag/waist pack, 20 liter day pack, and the 40 liter internal frame pack roughly approximate an EDC, a GHB and a BOB/compact INCH bag. With some thought and creativity, you could build a highly integrated GH/BO/INCH system around this rig. The coloring would promote a low profile "grey man" presentation.
A few caveats I see right off the bat:
1) I've used Asolo boots before (very good kit), but I don't know jack about Asolo as a bag maker. It could be well built, but my money says it's nowhere near as robust as milspec gear or even high end prosumer equipment like Lowe, Mountainsmith or Gregory.
2) It's a convertable travel pack with a stowable main suspension so it can double as checked luggage. My experience is these packs are inherently a compromise and will never perform as well as a dedicated backpack.
3) The abillity to zip together all three bags is neato and all, but that total arrangement looks very awkward for carrying signficant loads any real distance. If you're going far, you'd at least want to shift all the denser items into the main compartment for better weight distribution. And that detachable toiletry kit looks better off just stowed in the main compartment.
4) I'd also recommend adding some backup lashing straps to take some of the stress off the zippered connections.
5) This is technically a women's pack if you're male and that sort of thing bothers you. I see nothing about it that even whispers "feminine" but it's designed for shorter torsos, 17 -20". FWIW, I've never found a convertable travel pack, mens or womens, that would correctly position the waist belt on a taller guy.
FYI: the REI description doesn't say that toiletry kit is also a waist pack, but that's how it's described here http://www.ebags.com/product/asolo/navi ... id=1335008, which also includes a picture suggesting this thing may come with a rain cover.

Cheap cold weather gear. GEN I ECWCS Cold Weather Parka AND Liner. I think it's Dintex not Goretex. But I've read good reviews on them. I didn't buy from here. But you can get them here WITH the fleece liner in just about any size for $85. Can't touch that price with the liner even in surplus. Unless your maybe an extra small.
Cheap price on the bottoms too. I think it's $57. It comes in Black, ACU, DCU and Woodland. Not bad cold weather gear for $142 with the fleece liners - which almost never come with the parka.

TODAY ONLY at dailysteals.com.
Tandy Brands First Aid/Survival Kit (Choice of Magnetic Case or Aluminum Thermos/Water Bottle)

$4.99

Just a basic kit, but it's a good price and gives you a base to start from. Cheap enough to stash one here, there and everywhere.
