Fun with Paracord! (or) Misadventures with Paracord!

So yes, as a general rule, I paracord wrap the handles of all knives that will be used in the field, and any other tools (pry bar, shovel, etc).

I've found that my knot skills aren't up to par, but my fiance is pretty dexterous. I had her screw around a little bit tonight and she actually found that she has a natural talent for the cobra stitch. Below are two things she did for me tonight. She fixed up my boonie and made the bracelet from scratch... Thanks, ITW Nexus, for the whistle buckle.

If you tighten up that cobra stitch you can get about 20 to 30 feet of paracord on that hat. I made my bracelet with about 13 feet of paracord.

If you king cobra the bracelet you can get about 20+ feet on it too.

Actually, the fiance corrected me. I have fairly thick, manly wrists that measure 9 inches around. So she used 18 feet of paracord on the bracelet.

Admittedly, she said she could have put more knots on the hat and added more paracord... and she might, because she's unhappy with the outcome and keeps talking about taking it apart and reknotting it.

Thanks for the hat band idea. I've been looking for other ways to carry paracord besides key fobs, lanyards, and bracelets.

Yea, that's the second time she's accessorized a hat for me. I have a crushable wool cowboy hat that she made a hatband for when the leather one broke. It's a four wide flat braid, used about 30 feet of paracord to make.

Well today I was bord so.......

My first try and came out way to big but at least the cat liked it.

Looks good.

Tighten down that knot a lot more than what you have there. Yes, it might look funny on those whistle buckles, but it's the reason why I had her do the second set of knots over it (King Cobra knot), to make it wider so it doesn't look weird. I think that might also be why yours looks a little rounded. Otherwise, great first start. Better than mine.

I would recommend either just cutting the ends to within 1/4" of the cobra part of the knot, and then melting them into 'stoppers', or leaving them maybe 3/8" or 1/2" long and tying/lashing them to the inner strands of the cobra, right next to the buckle, with some whipping twine or the like.

If you have any whipping twine, thats what I'd do, because you can have 'normal' ends, and all you have to do is cut off the twine with a knife and then you can un-tie the bracelet easy.

OK, Thanks. Where do I go to see how to do the King Cobra knot? I need to make sure size thought I was trying for 8" and got about 12" lol. Anyone got a really big arm? lol I'll rip it apart and keep trying so I'll keep posting pictures and learn from the people who know how to do it lol.

I just set it up to be torn down because I knew it was to big so just thought I would show the first try.
