I posted a "this any good" type thread on this a while back - I recall the consensus being something along the lines of "works fine, but is pricey and not all that efficient for either boiling water or charging devices"

A friend showed me this a while back. Looks too gadgety for me, honestly, vs a small backup battery or two and your favorite stove. Some of those come with a solar panel that might be able to recover most of a phone battery's with of charge if they're in the sun all day; not enough to keep you going indefinitely, but maybe enough to add a day or two to a trip if it stays clipped to the outside of a pack. IMO, best to power off except for the occasional check to conserve battery.

Edit: These things are getting dirt cheap. Even if it has half the nominal capacity, that's a week of phone use there.

I'd rather have a roll up solar panel. But I really like the idea of the tech. Scale it up to help out in a cabin

AvE did a teardown on one of these on his YouTube channel after he used it on an extended camping trip. The gist of the video was that it was that it was a very convenient thing to have, but not as sturdy as you'd like something such as that to be.

The first gens we're awful. They barely generated enough power support it's fan. The second gen has a larger thermal generator, but is still slow. The power pot is the best fire to power generator. Fill it with water, set it on a fire and plug your stuff. As long as water is in there (needs the difference in temp), it will generate power without having to siphon off juice to power its internal battery and fan.

It's a brick. To heavy for hiking. And to hard to keep going. I owned one and sold it.

Pretty neat , but of course not idiot proof as the tech guy managed to break it in just a few minutes by taking it apart. ( Cracks me up. Thing survived weekend camping. Tech guy takes apart, breaks it and then blames the unit . Classic, dude you'd fit right in with our ten thumb IT crew here at my building ).
But it does seem a bit under powered. You'll have to excuse me if I pass on this and just keep my ....

I believe that works on a differential aka cold water in the pot is better. I decided against this technology. There is also a power pot which works under a similar and long understood principle. Almost bought that but so far have not.

I have one and really like it.

The best part is that I charge my phone by burning stuff! Solar panel are cool and batteries packs may be lighter but I get on-demand power by ... burning stuff!
