Shot Show 2013 [from an insider...]

Post by tripleryder » Sat Jan 12, 2013 5:28 pm

Hello, ZH! It's been a while, but I'm back! [Been away, launching a new business. A lot more work than I intended...] With my new company, I am attending Shot Show for the first time ever this year. Here is an excerpt of my blog post:

1,600+ vendors. 35,000+ attendees. 630,000+ square feet. Las Vegas.

Some of the rumors floating around:
  • Sig Sauer will lap-dancing their way into the world of HK with the launch of their first SMG, the Sig MPX. http://www.sigsauer.com/mpx/

Glock has been generating a lot of buzz after a post to "expect BIG news" on their Facebook. Since then, they have been slowly strip-teasing. At this point, many fans will be upset if their big announcement is anything less than a new firearm. Rumors abound, ranging from an AR variant, a single-stack 9mm/.40, to a range of polymer rifle accessories. They have revealed a "part 1 of 3 part reveal" on their Facebook, Glock ID, a Glock-only forum/social network with a tangible rewards system.

Remington will be showcasing their new 783, filling the budget gap between the excellent 700 and the disenchanting 700. Looks like it has a very Savage-Accutrigger-like trigger, which, in my mind, is a great move. http://www.remington.com/en/product-fam ... l-783.aspx

Other highlights include Winchester's new caliber, .17 WSM. We're talking 3,000 fps with a 20 grain bullet [compared with a mere 2,350 from a .17 HMR]. Bushcrafters worlwide should rejoice if we see handguns in this chambering…

Ruger will finally introduce the SR45, a commander-sized SR1911, as well as a .22 mag chambering of their popular LCR, and possibly a .380 LC9 [not sure I follow the logic on that one…].

    Additional Beretta Nano models.

Maxpedition is set to reveal a new line of CCW-specific gearbags [excited about this one], original morale patches, and the official launch of their Knives and Tools line. Let's hope, for their sake, the new line of knives has a warmer reception than their new Ferox.

    A bunch of new Buck Knives http://www.lawofficer.com/article/produ ... w-knives-2

    and much, much more
Make sure you don't miss anything, stay tuned here.

I have my own list of things to check out while we're there, but, if you have any special requests, let me know. I would be happy to make specific inquiries to any vendor. Also, if you're going, hit us up! I hear Hooters has great hot wings… :clownshoes:

I'd like to go see a Shot show sometime. Thanks for the post, let us know if the stupid zombie green stuff has finally gone away or if you see something cool!

I'm curious about the glock stuff, but hopes are low for anything that will actually relate to me.

Crye Precision-last year's SHOT show they had a smock garment according to someone's web blog. Showed pics too.

What happened to it? Looked like an interesting garment design.

Any news on the new military camouflage contenders and winners?

Any new wool or other material sock innovations or companies?
Anything from Patagonia..they had a military system that they sold on their website to get rid of-on a chance I picked up 2 tees and a waffle fleece from their website-the stuff is excellent! So I will know to watch their specials website
Thanks!

GLOCK, Inc Unveils the New 30S Pistol Model
Smyrna, GA — January 14, 2013 —

SHOT Show Sets the Stage for Unveiling of Latest Offering from GLOCK

Today GLOCK, Inc. announced a new addition to its pistol lineup - the GLOCK 30S. The conceal-and-carry hybrid pistol features impressive stopping power consisting of a factory-made 36 slide on top of a 30SF frame. Its compact design and simple operation allow smooth drawing in a .45 caliber pistol. The 30S packs 10 rounds of .45 ACP in a package that fits the hands of most any user. The G30S is easy to use, easy to conceal and tough to contend with.
Meh.

I called it on another thread. Kahr released a budget CM version of the Kahr P380. I was really hoping for a CM45, because its size and price would smoke the Springfield XDs 45.

It's an axe/hawk and the central cutout is a weak point carry handle. It's new and it's from Gerber, I won't touch it for at least a year after I see it in stores (which will be a month after we see it on TWD) to wait for reviews. It looks like a single piece of steel, which could mean a solid product, but Gerber has a long way to come before they impress me.

Alright, OP reporting in. Turns out, the Circus Circus free internet is next to worthless...

Glock disappoints. 30S and a soon-coming 33 Gen 4 are all they were talking about. Bummer

30S Above, standard 30 Below

Sig's new 227 (.45 acp on the 226 platform) is very nice, just as expected. I want one. Their MPX SMG is also great, very well put together, and nicely balanced.

Nice work Trip! Our Shot Show Ninja!!! A good slice of our 2013 year has been revealed, it's interesting to see where things are going. Albeit at somewhat slow pace. I think this might be a good year for improving what I already own instead. But we'll see how that goes, I have a hard time keeping my hands off new gear.
