Cleaning sticker goo off GSI Dualist

Post by Robert65 » Sat Dec 01, 2012 11:45 pm

Thought I share my little discovery.

I decided to pull out my GSI dualist today and remove the stickers of the pot, lid, and the three foons. You'd think they would use a sticker that would be easy to remove..not so much. The foons have a wrap around sticker that when removed leaves sticker residue that is a PIA to clean off. I started with with hot water, then dawn soap, then boiling water, rubbing alcohol, then fantastic. None of these even put a dent in it. I read somewhere that mineral oil would help remove sticker residue, don't have any of that so I pulled out some pam type canola oil spray and it worked like a champ! It also removed the sticker residue from left over from that big sticker in the bottom of the Dualist pot.

a better way to do it would be to saturate the sticker whilst on the object with your solvent of choice, or mineral oil - it should completely peel off all in one go with no residue. I find it much harder to remove the residue after removing the sticker than the above process.

Mineral oil can also be used to remove a band aid/plaster if you saturate the plaster beforehand, very nice when trying to take one off a child.

Denatured alcohol. cleans sticky off great and leaves behind no residue.

Naphtha. That's what it's for.
However, this Pam spray idea intrigues me.

There's a product called Rapid Remover that's used in the vinyl graphics industry (which is how I'm aware of it). I have yet to find an adhesive it won't inactivate in seconds. Even adhesives that didn't respond to naptha, Skin So Soft (actually a GOOD adhesive remover, really), Goo Gone, brake cleaner, and other harsher solvents will wilt before the awesome power of Rapid Remover. Peel the thing you want removed up, then spray Rapid Remover onto the remaining adhesive. Wait 30 seconds and it'll wipe up as a gelatinous snot like substance.

Lighter fluid will dissolve glue, it's cheep and will store for a long time.

Cooking spray you say? Cannot say I would have ever thought but I will have to try it. I have always had moderate success with acetone or goof off. However, you have to be careful with those and many other solvents on plastics....they will "burn" them.
Knowledge without practice is useless.

I second Goo Gone. They now have a good gone spray that is wonderful. It's the same as the squeeze bottle, but in a spray bottle. Apply Goo Gone, leave alone for a couple of minutes, wipe away. Truly wonderful stuff.

I had the same issue with my GSI Microduelist. I Goo Goned it, but just make sure you clean that stuff off well before using it. I don't know why GSI stuff is so over the top with stickers.

I use goo gone as well for removing asset tag stickers off of laptops that are being recycled or resold at work. works pretty well on the adhesive.

.....and a fourth endorsement of Goo Gone. I have a small-ish (4 or 6 oz, can't recall at the moment) that I've had for several years. Love that stuff.

Plus it smells all pretty. :awesome:

I use goo gone a lot around my building, works wonders. Lighter fluid works well too.
