The original Battlestar Gallactica? A bit hokey now, but when you have people offing themselves because the show is cancelled, how do you argue with that fan base?

So-called "Reality TV" shows cost almost nothing to produce and generate hundred-fold in revenue. Sci-Fi show, if well-made, are expensive to produce, have much smaller and generate no where near the revenue. Most SF shows produced by traditional networks actually suck and don't deserve to be on TV. Firefly was a great series, but production values were low and the audience, while loyal, was small. The most successful SF series, the Star Trek franchise, only kept making shows because of it huge fan base.
Of the current crop of SF shows, I've only watched a few. Terra Nova was a dumb concept and won't last two seasons. Same with Fallen Skies. Now, HBO or Showtime should have produced The Walking Dead. AMC will never spend the money necessary to really bring that world to life. Not When Mad Men is still their top show. I give TWD 3 maybe 4 seasons at best, then hopefully it will go to the big screen or get a mini-series treatment. A mini-series would move the stories along faster and get to the frakkin point, quicker.
HBO did an outstanding job with Game Of Throne, following the novels almost to the letter. Also True Blood is a top rated show in all of cable history.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this--I'm too lazy to look through three pages--but Jeremiah has been around since 1979 as a comic in Europe and can be read in the original version, in French. It is written by Hermann Huppen. There are about 30 or so comics to the series so far. In the US I think you can get ten or twelve of them translated. Luke Perry and Malcolm-Jemal Warner were huge fans of the comic and wanted to bring it to the screen so they teamed up with Michael Strazynski of Babylon 5 fame to get it done. What we see in the show is not much like what was in the comic. The show ended because MGM wanted more control of the series and Strazynski wasn't a fan of the series if MGM was going to take over.

On that note, I'm a fan of Jeremiah, and most all post apocalyptic shows. They get canceled because there's not much of a real audience for them outside of ZS and a few other places! TWD being an exception because of great advertisement.

Jericho, Firefly, totally awesome shows that tanked because they were on network television. The general public wouldn't know quality if it smacked them in the head. Cable gets to be a little more discriminating and has a little more leeway in what they can show. I could add stargate universe to that list and that was on a cable channel. I loved that show and was very upset that it got cancelled. The bad shows stay on because people watch. As my dad always said, "you can't fix stupid", you just don't have to associate with it. So, I will stay away from so-called "reality shows" and spend my TV time on shows with an actual story line and characters that I can relate to.

Agreed.... altough Sons Of Guns and Top Shot falls into reality T.V., and I enjoy those, mostly it is a wasteland of the inane.....Speaking of, just started season 1 of Sons of Anarchy, really enjoying it!

One both my wife and I miss is HBO's Carnivale. Like Jericho, they kinda wrapped it up but it could have been so much more.

And for all you Browncoats out there, check out http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com/ . A yearly event hopefully in a city near you where you can hang out with other fans and contribute to 2 good causes.

Jericho - A good series with low ratings (vs other programming)that got canceled. The fans managed to get the show back on the air, but the ratings remained low, and was canceled again. For that reason, I suspect it will take much more than a grass-roots fan campaign to bring any show back on the air.

But, think of the flip-side. Sliders was a good show for two seasons, but FOX muscled in and ended up controlling the production and totally fucked up the show. So much that Mr. Tormei bailed on his own creation and didn't get involved again until the show had moved to another network, and by then, the damage had been done. But, it stuck around for a few more seasons like a zombie that no-one has the heart to put down.

Another outraged Jericho fan here. Network incompetence sabotaged Jericho - starting with taking it off the air for several months in the middle of the first season and -- worse -- being slow to notice that millions were watching the episodes later in the week online.

The belated realization that the decades-old Nielsen ratings were short-changing shows like Jericho prompted change in viewer audience calculations, but too late for Jericho.

Or not. There is an ongoing effort to continue Jericho that has already resulted in season 3 of Jericho via a "graphic" comic book produced by Jericho's original creators. It's very impressive, you can get it from Amazon. It has ranked quite high on the New York Times listings of best sellers in this genre:

http://www.amazon.com/Jericho-Season-TP ... 844&sr=8-3

With the trend of cable networks wanting more original programming, I'm optimistic that Jericho will return someday, somewhere. Star Trek was cancelled in 1969 and took several years to come back in film (1979) and television (1987). The wait in that case certainly was well worth it.

Will all that is happening in the world today, Jericho has never been more timely.
