I'm glad that, in the show, Hershel doesn't have the two prepubescent daughters that he had in the GNs.

Yeah....that was when I really realized Kirkman meant business.

BUT there is Beth......
I don't think they'll go there, but then I didn't think Michonne was going to have her entourage, either.

Well, I've caught up on Season 3 of We're Alive; A story of survival, a serial podcast that's a little more 28 days later than living dead, but I'm probably a bigger fan of that, story wise than of the Walking dead...

Also, Mad Men is up and running again.... And yeah, it's not zombies... but it has two really big things going for it.... :D

I have the first 5 trade paperbacks.
One thing that I like about these volumes are their unique cover art.

Each of the books that I own have their own color & design on the cover, but on the bottom of every book the zombies in the foreground are all in a greenish-grey color.
When you line the books up side by side- the zombie horde pops out- because where the zombie drawing leaves off on one book, the next book starts with the rest of that zombie to make one long continuous line of a zombie horde!

I just read the latest comic (#94) and from my perspective it seems that some of the character traits in the show that weren't originally in the GN have started to surface in the comic (especially when it comes to Carl). Anyone else get that impression?

Not really.

Currently in the GNs, Rick is being very trusting of that Jesus-dude. In the show, I don't think Rick trusts his wife very much right now, much less some smooth-talking stranger.

As for Carl, in the GNs he pretty much does what he's told. He's smart/scared enough not to go wondering around out of sight of the adults......It's when he hasn't been told "not to do something" that he takes it upon himself to solve the problems that the adults seem to agonize over.

And in the show, Rick is telling Carl that he's not going to have a childhood and that he needs to grow-up fast. In the GNs it's just the opposite, Rick is doing his damndest to let Carl be a little kid......and not the stone-cold killer he pretty much already is.

I would imagine it would be kinda tough after two seasons of the TV series to go to the GN. If nothing else you must have it in your mind that Andrew Lincoln IS Rick Grimes and the way the character is drawn in the comics must be jarring. I know for the longest time I struggled with the TV series because the actors cast for all the principal characters just didn't look right to me. I'm over that now  .

Plus, in the GN there is no Daryl Dixon. A post-apocalyptic world without that righteous dude just isn't a world I'd care to live in.

I really believe she was more in love with Shane than she was with Rick, and that showed in her reaction to Rick telling her he killed her lover.

I don't know if she was more in love with Shane than Rick, but she was in love with everyone's favorite post apocalyptic bad boy. And Shane was giving her something that Rick never could. To say that she was conflicted about these two men would be an understatement. Going back to the very first episode, Rick confiding in Shane that things were not all honky dory in the Grimes household. And later that same episode when Lori was confiding to her girlfriend that sometimes Rick was too reasonable, that just once she wished he would lose it a bit, suggests that Lori was looking for something, maybe more passion in her husband.

Any female members who would like to go a bit deeper into that analysis, I'm all ears. What I wrote above is the extent to which I understand the inner world of women. I'd love to expand my knowledge in that regard.

I'm not a woman, but I find it kind of odd that people are thinking that Lori is still in love with Shane. To me, it was pretty obvious that Lori had talked to Shane to clear the air; she basically broke off all non-necessary communication with Shane up until that point, and even after he came for her when she crashed her car, she stopped talking outright and headed to the passenger side silently after he said that Rick was okay. Just got in the car and let Shane drive them back, no chit-chat.

I was thinking that Lori had been bottling up any feelings for Shane since Rick came back and kept telling herself that she was supposed to be with Rick (which she did say several times, and this would taint her feelings for Shane and make it feel wrong to continue being with him); eventually, I think the PAW mentality wore off and she genuinely put an end to that chapter of her life. She did say that she still had feelings for him, but I don't see how that's different from breaking off any meaningful relationship; it's not rejecting love and saying that the relationship was never real, it's accepting that the relationship won't work and moving on (it's called 'baggage' for a reason, isn't it?). And she says as much.

For all of the stupid shit and generally elementary script-writing for Lori, the scene where she told Shane (as Rick himself told him in '18 Miles Out') was probably the most clear-cut, lucid scene Lori has ever been in.

For tl; dr, I don't see how anyone but Shane could read that scene as meaning 'I want you'. And he's one fucked-up son of a bitch.

I mean, Shane took that as justification to kill the prisoner (which was held off after Dale died; basically fucking over his chances of staying in the group) and murder Rick under a false flag.

Feelings aside, if you try to kill your best friend with a wrench and he saves you from certain death anyway (even though he could have easily done so, without anyone wondering what the truth was), would you really decide to murder him because he gave you another chance to?

On Rick's end, if you find out that your best friend has been fucking your wife, somehow keep it together enough to give him a second chance to be your best friend, and he tries to KILL YOU to keep fucking your wife and raise YOUR SON (YOUR SON, FOR FUCK'S SAKE), would you have saved him? Much less give him a second chance after he tries to murder you AGAIN?

Rick's been a reasonable guy. Way too fucking reasonable for realism, really. I know I probably would have to think hard about saving that piece of shit.

He even gave Shane a third, final chance to redeem himself. Rick knew how to get Shane to calm down, because he knew exactly what was going through Shane's head in '18 Miles Out' (which is why he told Shane what he told him); I think that to some degree, he was making sure that Shane had to die, and he got ample proof that his suspicions were correct (nothing but deluded bullshit came out of Shane's mouth). Not much else to it, really, IMO.

But the bad boy type-not if the world was flooded with piss and he lived in a tree. Yeah, some women (Lori) may like the excitement but Shane is the last thing I'd want in a man. I had him pegged from the very first conversation with Rick that this guy is a psychopath. And if you know anything about the psychopathic personality type-any and everything is justified to get what he or she wants simply because they want it. They have no conscience. And like a lot of men, Shane wanted what he couldn't have. He wanted Lori and that's all that mattered. Even when her lawful husband reappeared, he could not let her go. Any and everyone else be damned.

And don't blame the women for the wars throughout history. The woman had little to do with it. It was the man's pride that led him to ruin. And Shane's hubris got him killed too. He deserved it. But that's what happens when your dick does your thinking.
