Yup, I do that too... but I'm not bugging out in the ZPAW though.

My point was simply that mushroom gathering might be a medium-to-low-priority task, but done that way when the zeds are roaming makes a lousy SOP.... you need a team with at LEAST one dedicated lookout.

I love picking 'shrooms, but it takes some heavy-duty staring at the ground, which is fine under normal circumstances, but kinda silly in the ZPAW. The lone, ground-staring mushroom picker, and the lone, ground-staring emo - both will be killed by the zombie invasion.

The hunter/gatherer team with serious skills and a good SOP will probably thrive, though!

Oh, and I'm building up my stock of dried mushrooms, which lasts for YEARS, so I won't have to take that particular trip into the woods in the ZPAW (or use the trip in the more fun way the characters did in ep2...).

I noticed they had alarms setup - strings with bells or cans or something on them.

Major Spoiler:
In the comic, zeds do in fact get into the camp. It's a major plot point early on and serves as the impetus for several other key events.
I'm trying so hard not to post in this thread because I don't want to spoil things but you've summed it up and who else but ZS members would speculate along the right lines...

I think it's a given that both 'guy from jericho' and 'guy who plays various douchebags' will be in more episodes due to storyline and the fact they're both recognisable from other things, however it should be noted that the writer of the comic book kills off characters with high frequency in the beginning of the story. I expect season two will have an almost entirely different cast from this current one, I'll be disapoint if not!

Ha, I felt the same way watching it. Most thrillers and horror movies don't even put me on the edge of my seat like this show. My roommates probably hate me after watching it with me last night because I'm pretty sure I was muttering, "Nonononono, why would you do that!?" or "Gogogogo, hurry up! Faster!" the whole time.
And at last I resolved to scale that tower, fall though I might;

So far I'm enjoying the series even when it strays from the comic book. I think my wife is about sick of me saying "That's not what happened in the book." But she will get over it.

If you are reading this thread and are about to complain about spoilers, especially when "main" character deaths are mentioned, remember that this TV show is based off of a Zombie Apacalyps Graphic Novel in which people die. A lot of people die. If you watch it expecting someone to die every episode, then you can be pleasantly surprised when no one does.

Fletch wrote:I'm trying so hard not to post in this thread because I don't want to spoil things but you've summed it up and who else but ZS members would speculate along the right lines...
Ehh, I would say avoid the major events and go ahead and comment on minor stuff. Mainly because they are diverging enough from the books that stuff you think might happen, now won't. Or will happen totally differently. Like douche-canoe up on the roof. I see this guy becoming a major player later on in the story when our heros feel safe and run into another surviver community.. hint hint.
I think it's a given that both 'guy from jericho' and 'guy who plays various douchebags' will be in more episodes due to storyline and the fact they're both recognisable from other things, however it should be noted that the writer of the comic book kills off characters with high frequency in the beginning of the story. At the pace they are going, and if they stay fairly close to the books in "main" character deaths, I think that they will prolly be well into season 3 before we see the major events that occurs at the end of Compendium 1/Book 8/Issue 48.

Great show, awesome potential inconsistencies and all..

Some really excellent starter plots have developed. Special effcts look great for a TV show.

This show will probably redefine Zombie physiology and behavior.

The redneck on the roof is some friggin piece of work. Seems like there's always gotta be a total douch bag mucking up the works...
Someone in a post mentioned the knocked over tool box but remember 'standard' LE cuffs are hardened steel. I'm taking bets if/how the SOB frees himself and whether it requires a self inflicted "injury".

If it does he's an even bigger idiot than he looks. The cuffs may be difficult to cut through but that pipe they're on seems fairly easy.

Not just easy, but that threaded rod looks rusty and that hack saw should go through it like butter. All he has to do is weaken it and give it a few kicks and pull the cuffs off it. Like I said a few posts above, I see this guy coming back to haunt them later on. Maybe a way to make later on be not quite so... dark... evil... twisted. Not sure how best to describe later. ;)

Yeah, this is why the average ZSer would not hang out with these people if he/she came across them in the organizational state they are in.
Someone mentioned it earlier: it would be boring if they (the survivors) did everything right, otherwise those of us who have considered the ZPAW possibility would not have much to talk about…

...and yes I too was yelling at my TV when the wife takes her turn at mushroom gathering if I recall right it was something along the lines of "Go off alone without even a sharp stick!?!?"

Or better yet why when the wife is on her own wandering in the forest she keeps looking UP at the trees every time she heard rustling...I don't remember any zombie squirrels or zombie ninjas in the comic book.
The thing is that yeah we are all griping our fare share but are we going to stop watching? No. It is still a damn great show.
Are we going to send angry Glock fanboy letters to the producers/director/writing/ or prop staff? Maybe.

Well, I stand overwhelmingly corrected then. I yield my massive waste of text to you, sir.

While I like the show, I admit that it is a fair bit melodramatic; then again, most of the shows that I know of are (I can't name one that isn't). This show deals with melodrama fairly better than the Dawn remake, though; that movie was painful to watch.

Loving this show, but like every zombie show, people do some of the STUPIDEST things. The one that had me screaming at the TV was Glen talking about how he likes to sneak into the city, grab supplies, and then sneak out, and how this time he brought a bunch of people with him (why? nobody knows) and of course everything goes to hell. But if Atlanta is anything like any other city I've been in, it's surrounded by suburbs - decently supplied and not nearly as concentrated with zeds suburbs. WHY OH WHY would anyone sneak into couple hundred thousand square acres of stone canyons filled with undead to cop some... clothes? Suburban Atlanta doesn't have a JCPenney? Jericho-guy and his son had demonstrably done a fairly workmanlike job of scavenging and staying out of site outside of the city in E1 - why bother with big cities? The ZPAW is the perfect time to take advantage of suburban sprawl.

Pretty sure it was her excuse to go get some vulnerable PAW lovin' on.

See, that one kinda makes sense when you look at it from what he was saying. One man is easier to get in and out, but you bring in a group to get more stuff in one go rather than piecemeal and increasing odds that the store he loots/scavenges/whatever ends up full of the undead and unusable until they clear out.

However, they should have sent more people with intelligence. The white trash had me laugh, that was a bad idea coming and I wanted to slap whoever let him go with.

Wildeman right, he'd have to cut through the pipe. Cutting thru the threaded rod would just separate the support but he'd still be handcuffed to pipe if I remember right.
