Based on that preview, it appears to my eye that Tom Cruise somehow convinced the Navy to let him do that catapult launch and a number of other multi-G flight sequences with him in the front seat. Of course, with what he did for Navy recruitment in the 1980's, I'm not surprised they let him get away with more than they would any other actor.

Say what you will about the guy, but I've said over the years that he's the hardest working 30+ year old 40+ year old 50+ year old action star working in Hollywood.

Doubtful, it would be a first up front. I am thinking CGI/ Green screen.
