Personal comment: I had the same response to this one as I did when I saw the trailer for Dawn of the Dead 04. "Oh SH!T!!!"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0455407/

Director: Breck Eisner
Stars: Radha Mitchell, Timothy Olyphant, Danielle Panabaker (Full Cast)
Studio: Overture Films

The Plot: An updated version of George Romero's 1973 cult fave about a virus that spreads throughout a town, causing its residents to go insane, riot and kill each other.

I haven't seen the original.

That movie looks like it's going to be further to the end of the horror/thriller spectrum of the zombie spectrum and be a little more dramatic and fear inducing, playing on other concepts than simply "ZOMG WALKING UNDEAD" such as the father being driven insane so that he comes at his own little children with a knife and gas can. Without the zombie element that's STILL fucked up creepy-psycho. So I think the movie will be really neat to see. This should be good, if they pull it off well. Doesn't look like it's going to take a ghoullish dump on the genre, I think.

Not too many things give me my "OH SH!T" reaction. Dawn of the Dead 04 did, L4d did, Nazi Zombies did(Wasn't expecting it when I beat CoD:WaW), Jerico did(Edit: Ok it was more of a bone chilling slow Ohhhh Sh!t), I think Transformers 1 did as well but I'm not gonna swear to that. :P

2nd Edit: I didn't actually write dairy queen zombies, the forum edits out the word for WW2 German soldiers/political party.

This movie is not about zombies in much the same way 28 Days/Weeks Later is not a zombie film. The virus affects the brain of a living person making them become violent whereas a zombie is, as we all know, a reanimated corpse that feeds on human flesh.

I hope it will be good. The orginal was arguably better than Night of the Living Dead.

Highly debatable.

How's that? Even the creators of 28 Days/Weeks Later said "this isn't a zombie movie". 28 Days/Weeks and the Crazies are about a virus making people violent, zombie movies are about reanimated corpses, usually reanimated by a virus but sometimes not.

this debate will go on for as long as there making zombie movies & im sure after. I used to think the whole 28 days later werent zombies but now i kinda do. i mean sure they werent really the undead (they werent coming back from the dead) but they werent really living (eating,no more then basic thought, planning). Im thinking this will just be the next lvl for zombies(a lot better then day/land smart zombies) even our idea of zombies isnt real zombies. the true zombies have a master that controls them & they do his will(im pretty sure they arent dead). there more a voodoo slave & not mindless brain eater. I never saw the first Crazies but its on my list it always looked good to me so im looking forward to it.

voodoo zombie - living person(sometimes dead in stories) deprived of all free will. if I remember right they use a powder to cause brain damage and some other crap to leave them zombie like, however without the flesh hunger.

Who says they're the experts or be-all-end-all on the subject? Not me, that's for sure.
Examples:

Quote:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombie
A zombie is a creature that appears in folklore and popular culture typically as a reanimated corpse or a mindless human being.

Quote:
zombie or zombi
Noun

pl -bies or -bis
1. a person who appears to be lifeless, apathetic, or totally lacking in independent judgment
2. a corpse brought to life by witchcraft [W African zumbi good-luck fetish]

and on and on...

Zombie basically means it's a body controlled by something other than it's original soul/mind/will. That can be reanimated dead, or mind-control of a living being, or a disease that takes over the body's actions. There're different types of zombies. Preference for one does not cause the others to be 'wrong' or nonexistent.

The beginning of this movie reminds me of "The Signal" where people just start doing crazy, violent stuff (minus the technological trigger). But, towards the end of the trailer, it starts to look like your basic viral infection causing people to look disgusting with facial lesions, running amok sort of movie like the recent "Carriers".

Can't be too bad though as I recognize some of the actors in it. :)

Saw the original, wasn't impressed, so I'm not sure I'd enjoy the remake. Dunno, maybe I'm just burned out on Romero and his socio-political commentary he injects into his movies with a firehose.

I think it looks decent . I am sure I'll see it in the theater .

The original was actually pretty cool but had some butt-ugly actors in it .

Depends. Some argue that a zombie is actually an brainwashed corpse brought to unlife by voodo ritual and put to work by the living.

Maybe by this late stage in the zombie genre, the word simply can't be defined. Maybe it's like porn. Can't define it, but we know it when we see it.

I just hope that this one doesn't do what Romero's original did: portraying the military as brainless thugs who love going on rampages and wasting civilians.

This one looks good! I like Timothy Olyphant, he was great in Deadwood!

That's pretty much what all Romero's movies do. I'm thinking he starts with ideas of how to portray the military and police as monsters then writes a zombie movie around them.

Anyway, looks pretty good. I'll check it out. Not sure about the theatre, but when you only go to 1 or 2 movies a year you gotta be pretty choosy.
