BUG OUT camping spots

Postby TXwaterdog » Fri Dec 02, 2011 9:58 pm

What's your favorite place to BUG OUT for the weekend and practice your skills? I'm a fan of Inks lake. It's a constant level lake with nice smooth as glass water. My favorite part about it is that the gate is always open. If you swing into camp at 3am just pop in the 24hr lobby and fill out a form then drop it in the drop box, Easy as pie. Ramp is nice and deep with a great dock next to it for mooring your boat. Rentable canoes, paddle boats, and surfbikes year-round; Primitive camping, site camping, cabins, and an amphitheater. WiFi available.

*edit: I forgot to add that I've actually caught fish in this lake. Much of the time I get out there and see fish swimming.. have bites..etc.. but pull only a couple of small unsuitable fish out of the water. Inks delivers a decent fish haul. I've mainly caught widemouth bass but an occasional catfish has found my hook as well.

I like this thread. It will be good to get an idea of what there is in our area for mock bug outs. Keep the suggestions coming.

I have always liked pace bend park. It is a county park on Lake Travis.

I like Perdenales. Obviously you can,t bring your rifles and tactical gear, but there is some rough terrain to hike, and some decent campsites. It's been a few years since I've camped there, but hopefully I'll get some leave this summer and spendthe weekend out in the woods.

If you're looking to do some tactical training with gun loaded in full tote, you can actually hunt in approximately 1.2 million acres of Texas State land. :D

"Hunt for alligator, pronghorn antelope, white-tailed deer, mule deer, javelina, exotic mammals, turkey and more! Public hunts are available for youth only and for adults, with guided and unguided opportunities, so there's something for everyone.

Find a Place to Hunt
With approximately 5,000 special supervised and guided hunts and over 200 public hunting areas, including Wildlife Management Areas, State Parks, U.S. Forest Service lands and private lands, public hunts are an economical way to experience nationally renowned Texas hunting.

Walk-in Hunts
The $48 Annual Public Hunting Permit provides nearly year-round hunting on approximately 1.2 million acres of land. The increasingly popular dove hunting areas are offered through this system.

Drawn Hunts
