I'm with Keith on this one. KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) is as easy as posting a YouTube video, you don't have to pay, and you can offer your book for $2.99 (that is the lowest price option, and generally what indie authors put their work at), which is a lot more attractive to the potential buyer.

If you decide to do this, send me an email (dan.theremaining@gmail.com) and I can offer you what help/advice I have to give.

Don't give up on it, bro.

Ponyboy,

I'm really hoping you're going to reconsider and get this up on kindle epublishing... I was actually recommending it to some folks this morning, and if you get it to < $5 I'll 'pony' up for a digital copy.

You can upload your or any book for Kindle direct publishing at no cost

Write the book
Convert with Kindlegen
Post to KDP, collect 70% of the sale price on a royalty bases, 35% if you price at under $1.99

They mail you a check and handle all the tax crap. All sales are tracked and posted online for your review. A much better deal than you will get from a publishing house. I have 9 books out on the Kindle market now and they are on Amazon...at no cost to me. Far more organized than B&N. A lot less expensive than Apple.

My main books run over 100K words, with 10 chapters and sell for $3.99. I sell First Strike for $0.99 to get a hook in the reader. I have a couple of shorter books for $2.99 and $0.99 for fun.

I do see 40 page "books" priced at $12 to $15 and wonder what drugs the author is on. I also see 'professional' books for $200 to $500 and also wonder about recreational pharmaceutical use...

The brutal fact is that most self- published authors will be lucky to sell 300 books. Ever. The stats are out there. Amazon has millions of titles for sale.

I stay active on multiple boards with a 'survival' meme and post stuff besides my stories for a bit of street cred. I do guest posts on other people blogs. I hustle just a bit to keep my sales going.

But, this will never pay me in relation to the time I put into it - as a hobby, it's fun and brings in a few bucks. Once I have enough 'practice" - I'll try to sell to some e-zines. That should be some real money.

If you want to publish, get to it. It can be a lot of fun, but don't ever kid yourself that you'll make a living at it. That's rare. Just the same, good luck!

Not to derail this thread but it's funny you mention that... My Deputy and I were just talking about that the other day; though that conversation centered on ridiculously priced items, not books per-se, on eBay and Amazon.

Money laundering anyone?

Nay there are better businesses for money laundering. Heavy cash businesses with few credit card sales.

Anything where there is no physical product sold and no list of sale transactions.
