Mumbai meets Midwest - 2/20- update

Post by wtr100 » Mon Nov 10, 2014 6:03 pm

Just testing the waters - very little work on spelling or grammer

---------------------------------

This would be the grandest of martyrdom operation. They had boarded the plane in Monclova Mexico. Mahir had no idea exactly how many Jihadies were aboard but the cargo plane was packed, easily 300 . The plan was to land in the late afternoon, 5:00 pm , then everyone would pile out the various cargo doors then move off and start killing. The plane would immediately take off and crash into an auto manufacturing plant only 40 miles away. Sadly most of the planes fuel would be burned off by the time it slammed into the plant but 100,000 pounds of anything slamming into a factory at 400 miles per hour would be enough. The plant would be running a full shift and the devastation would pull law enforcement to yet another location. It would have been better to strike a target in St Louis or Chicago but it was thought the Americans might muster a fighter plane response by then.

He had an AK47, a pack with 40 magazines – 1,000 rounds, some food, six bottles of pepsi and five grenades. He wondered absently if he’d die before he finished all his sodas. It amused Mahir his back pack had been left behind by the Americans when they fled Iraq and his meals were Halal MRE’s brought to Iraq by the US Army. He’s sampled them, they were excellent.

His part of the operation was simple. Stay with his 4 man team as they left the aircraft head East, through the airport fence and steal a car from the parking lot. Two of his men were trained and equipped with tools to force start cars. Drive to a hospital , actually a large medical center, and begin killing there.

They had paper maps, Mahir even had a Microsoft ‘surface’ with GPS enabled maps and had been visualizing the route with Google Earth for weeks. Once at the hospital they were free to kill as Allah would have them. Helpful maps from the hospital web site had been downloaded to Mahir’s ‘surface’. Pouring over the maps he has chosen the Easter Seals Clinic within the Medical Center. The death of children would create more terror than the country had ever known. He wasn’t sure what an Easter Seal was but he knew it had to do with the silly false prophet who died on a tree, so yes he’d start with the Easter Seals Clinic.

They would stay less than 20 minutes. Unless police or military blocked them in, then they’d shoot it out to the end. They were free to go where they would next. Looking at the maps they had noted some affluent houses to the East of the Medical Center perhaps they would burn them. To the west and across the grand highway was another hospital. He laughed as he considered the possibility another fire team was sent there with a similar idea. The might meet in the middle and wave to each other.

Perhaps he should follow Awad’s idea of moving into the residential areas north of the hospital and going to ground and then either re-emerging in the morning or perhaps setting a home on fire and ambushing the authorities.

For now he settled back and tried to nap. It wasn’t easy it was cold in the cargo hold and there were men spread everywhere. He wondered absently how they were able to fly a plane right into America. Mahir was an educated man and might have understood the complex maze of computer hacking and aviation sleight of hand that allowed an air cargo flight directly from Mexico into a moderately large city in the US. It had taken several years of very patient work. Indian based computer consulting companies used low prices to gain access to US market and government contracts. Very quietly some of the faithful had learned to exploit systems.

Mahir did manage to nod off he was about to take a 12 year old girl from behind when he was rudely awakened. The plane was about to land. Everyone was putting on packs and slinging rifles. One of the bosses was yelling for everyone to stay put until there was a clear path to the door. Men with several ladders were at the door. It was a surprising distance to the ground. The lucky brothers on the lower deck could just hop down.

The boss was waving his pistol in the air of the enclosed space , exalting the faithful to martyrdom and jihad. I should have been given a pistol as well, am I not a leader of this important team. It was an unworthy thought. The word to brace for landing was passed back.

The landing was a little different than a normal one. There was something to be said for being in a seat while an aircraft comes to a stop. The large door swung open at the front of the plane and light streamed in. The brothers closest to the door had common extension ladders and slid them out. The bosses were yelling for everyone to stay down until there was a clear way to the ladders. Move quickly when the was a path to the door but stay put until there was.

BANG

There was a murmur of raising panic among the men was the plane under attack? The bosses shouted for silence. It was brothers firing mortars. These were some of the first to leave the lower compartment. Even now they were raining fire on the infidels. It was indeed mostly fire. The shells were old Russian ones full of white phosphorous. They would burst 50 to 100 feet in the air and shower white hot globs of molten metal . They had a few high explosive and a tear gas as well. There were three mortars going. They didn’t have targets as such they just knew to the south of the Airport was a residential area. One crew started with their tube set to max range and was bringing their shots back 50 meters each shot. Another crew set theirs for 1,500 meters and adjusted their shots 30 meters to the west each shot.

What they didn’t know was this was not a terribly effective way to cause damage. Only one shell in 10 actually started homes on fire. Many roofs were ruined but the American love of fiberglass bat insulation saved many homes. The most terror was caused by the least lethal shells, tear gas. The Russian tear gas was potent, foul stuff. It created billowing clouds of choking gas.

HAMMER! HAMMER! HAMMER!

Two teams of brothers had set up 40 mm grenade launchers and were lobbing rounds into the Air National Guard base located across the runway.
([ how would duty people contact ‘higher’ here]) There were already five of the unit’s C-130’s on fire.

Wosh! Boom! Wosh! Boom! Wosh! Boom! Wosh!

Another team of brothers fired four Javelin missiles into the control tower.

---

Mahir and his group followed the flow across the runway. Past the terminal building. Though he’s never been there before the hours spent pouring over google maps made everything seem oddly familiar, like they’d been there before many times. He let the brothers trained in starting cars lead. Some were easier than others to start and they had practiced picking the easiest ones. There was some shooting off to the side. Some infidels had been caught in the parking lot, others inside the airport terminal.

They had picked a vehicle a four door Toyota Camry. It was opened and started in a minute it even had a full tank of gas. Everyone piled in, Awad was driving with Mahir navigating. There was actually a cue of cars full of Jehadi’s heading out. The boys in the back started to point rifles out the windows to randomly shoot things until Mahir scolded them …

He held up his surface to the boys in the back. On it was a diagram of the hospital. “We will stop at the door nearest the security office. Here. We will go in kill the guards. We will throw grenades down these three hall ways and move to the Easter Seals Clinic as we go. Understood?”

I’m thinking I might do this as a bunch of short stories to kill some time this winter. I’m up for ideas

So far I have

1. Neighborhood/subdivision arming selves and setting up their own road blocks in and out. Maybe with LEO trying to get it removed
2. A ‘rescue’ mission to get kids from a school activity? Maybe with remaining at the school , school and holding the fort?
3. National Guard or Police from a neighboring town heading in provide mutual aid?
4. Neighboring town (across a river) sets up road blocks on the bridges at the order of the Mayor / Town council.

What do you think the first news reports would be like?

I already hate this guy...must be good writing. Keep it coming!

I assume this is set in CA so the repsonse, at least from the general population, wouldn't be as immediate/violent...and yes, chaotic as a result...than if it were set in TX.

You do mention an auto plant though so that could be here in San Antonio!

By adding stereotypes to the character he comes off as flat. You're making him too "bad" and therefore not believable. I feel like I'm watching Team America all over again.

Fair criticism

Since it'll be short stores there won't be a lot of character development

Stereotypes come from a twisted version of the truth. Considering the type of character it is, someone willing to board a plane, carry 1,000 rounds, and inflict death on people simply because they are different, I think that it is well written. Almost not zealous enough.

I think the short story is a very interesting concept, and one that I haven't read before, but based upon the complete lockdown of Boston, this would be very short-lived, even if the possibility for destruction from the initial team could be devastating.

This also would have to take place in California. It would be over even quicker in TX, NM or AZ.

The School

=======

Brian got home after 14 hour day that began at 2 am. The family was at St Francis Middle school for some play / musical practice or something like that. He was going to put some deer back straps on the George Foreman, down a Sam Adams, shower and get some sleep and get some sleep.

He woke to the phone. “Uhhhhhhhhhhhh?”

It was his neighbor Scott. “Brian, are Ellen and the kids home and safe/”

“Uhhh? Who is this?” Brian’s brain still hadn’t caught up.

“It’s Scott you idiot! With all the shooting and the fires are Ellen and the kids home from school? Haven’t you ”

Brian sat bolt upright. Ellen wasn’t in bed and the house was quiet. The clock read 9:32. “What shooting and fires?”

It dawned on Scott with Brian’s odd schedule he had probably been asleep with no idea what was going on. “Dude, serious shit going down. A plane landed at the airport and dumped a bunch of terrorists off. The blew up the control tower, shot up the control tower, shot the shit out of the Air Guard base. The shot up the hospital. Cell phones aren’t working. They just announced on TV everyone should shelter in place.”

Brian was up and moving now. The house was empty. “They’re not here man. Sally and your kids at Saint Eff’s?”

The weather radio blared it’s obnoxious warning tone then, “This is Chief of Police Mike Settngsgard. There are numerous criminals committing acts of violence in and around the city. The police department is getting the situation under control. But for right now things are very dangerous. Everyone needs to shelter in place. You will not leave your homes. If you’re not at your home you must stay where you are. Please stay off the phones unless you’re contacting 9-1-1 to report fire, medical emergency or criminal activity. If one of my officers give you a command you will, I say will obey it immediately.

We’re going to get this under control as soon we can. But we just cannot operate the way we normally do. For now sit tight. Help us help you.”

“Scott did you hear that shit?”

“Yeh man, screw that we need to get the family’s back here.”

“Damn straight. Oh it’s only a mile as the crow flies….”

“Hang on some is at the door”

Brian put the phone on speaker. He sliped on dark brown Carhart Jeans and a navy blue t-shirt. In the walk-in closet was his ‘oh shit’ stuff. Hanging on the wall was a ‘war belt’ and suspenders with Ruger 1911 – cocked and locked , two spare magazines . On the other side of the belt was ar15 mag pouch with three 30 round magazines. In the top self was a mid length Ruger SR556 carbine. Brian was surprised to see himself shaking as he put it on.

“Brian you still there?” came from the phone.

“Yeh, getting my shit on.”

“Hey Mindy is here from across the street. She’s ready to go get the kids. “

Mindy was the local Rambette she’s just left the Air Force where she’d been an Air Policeman, Woman? Person? with three tours in ‘stan the last one attached to of all things the USMC. As a female she could interact with the local females in ways the males could not. Been there and done that came to mind with her.

It was agreed to meet over at Scott’s detached garage. Brian grabbed a backpack he used turkey hunting and went to each of his kid’s room and threw in some dark clothes and their hiking boots. He did the same for his wife. He got down the wife’s Mossberg 20 SA Tactaical shotgun and did a chamber check to ensure a shot shell was loaded. He had custom loaded these 20 gauge shells with 10 #3 buckshot pellets under half an ounce of hevi shot BB’s.

Arriving at Scott’s garage Mindy was already there along with Rodger, a guy Brian had only seen once in a while. Every was dressed in dark clothes. Brian and Scott had hunting cammo jackets, Mindy had Air Force Tiger on and Rodger had a mismatched set of tan and green British looking cammo. Turned out it was Australian as was Rodger, ”All the ‘kit’ I could turn up” he explained.

Everyone had an AR and pistol of various flavors except Rodger. He had a Marlin lever action rifle in 44 mag plus a 4” mountain revolver, also in 44 mag.

They looked at Google Earth on Rodger’s tablet. The route to the school as the crow flew was 1,200 yards. South through the woods and down the steep hillside at the edge of the subdivision. Across a golf course and a road then though another small park, skirting a small pond. It would bring them up on the playground and softball field at the rear of the school.

Mindy had a small hand held night vision monocular. They paused for her to scan every so often. They made good time when the got to the edge of the woods behind the school thirty minutes later Mindy cursed. “There are two guys next to the softball dugout with rifles. I think they’re watching the back doors.”

Scott whispered. “Are they guarding them or ambushing them?”

“Can’t tell.’

“Which way are the looking and pointing the guns?”

“Can’t tell, these aren’t real clear.” Meaning the night vision device.

The school was lit up completely. All the flood lights around it were on. It seemed many of the inside lights were on too. There was the faint smell of pizza in the air.

“Shit! Over there!” half way down the school two figures with AK’s briefly emerged in a pool of light. Guns up, headed towrd the front of the school. Rodger was out of his crouch, carbine up and moving toward them briskly.

“Where the heck is he going?”

A muffled shout from the front of the school.

BRAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP! Muzzle Flashes !
Pop! Pop! Pop!
BOOM! BOOM!
BRAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!

Brian shouldered his AR and flipped on the 1,000 lumen white light on the carbine at the same time. The searing white light dazzled the men crouched by the dugout. Brian began jerking the sending 64 grain Winchester hunting rounds all around the pair. Scott and Mindy joined in with Scott’s light adding to the brightness.

The two Jihadis bolted for the wooded area on the other side of the school. In a few seconds everyone had mag dumped and the Jehadi’s were gone.

“Cease Fire! Cease Fire! Cease Fire! RELOAD!” came out of Mindy.

Brian was fumbling to get a magazine in the rifles.

“Safeties on! Lights OFF!!! Scan! Scan! Scan!” Wendy again.

She scanned with the night vision. ‘Move up!’

Up from Rodger had opened up with the 44 mag once they began to fire at the school safety officer who challenged them. He dropped the first one where he stood. The 180 grain soft lead bullet with a massive hollow point hit a vertebrate just below the shoulder blades shattering it while severing the spine. Dead right there. The other one took off for the woods/park.

He approached the front of the school and could hear groaning and frantic speaking into a radio. He came into view and a shot cracked past his ear.

“Officer Pierson? It’s me Rodger Wales. Are you ok?”

“No, I’m hit in the arm. Hurts like hell. What is going on around back?”

“Don’t know.” He saw officer Pierce trying to do a one handed tactical reload of his Sig P220. “Here let me help you.” Rodger took the pistol , dropped the partially full one and replaced it with a fresh one giving it back to the officer. He took his revolver and tucked it badly into the officers kydex holster. “Here you can do a NY reload if you need too. Do you have a blowout kit?”

“Pouch on the left side of my belt.”

The kit contained a CAT tourniquet, Olaes Battle dressing and some sheers. Rodger Wales, formerly Lance Corporal Wales of Her Majesty’s Royal Australian Marines looked at Sgt Pierce’s wounded left arm. It was through the meat of the upper arm and seemed to have not hit any bone. There was quite a bit of blood but it wasn’t spurting so he concluded it was venous bleeding and chose the Olaes. Opening the packet he found the meter long strip of cotton gauze and used his thumbs to pack as much of it in the exit wound, then packed more into the entrance wound. He placed the large pad over the exit wound positioning the pressure cup right over the hole. He next wrapped the bandage tightly in place. Officer Pierce growled in pain. “Sorry mate. I think you’re going to be ok. Can you hold the fort here? I have friends around back who are better armed than I.”

Thirty minutes later all the lights in the school were out. Children and unarmed adults were in the basement cafeteria. Some adults had armed themselves with make shift weapons like broom handles sharpened into spears and hornet spray. Barricades had been erected. Handguns had been given to adults just inside the door. Everyone else was on the roof. Officer Pierce tried to call for help on the radio and was told help would arrive soon.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

At a pavilion in the park just outside three men gathered. One of their brothers had been killed. They made a plan. First they used the internet and surface computers to post their position and the juicy target to the message board. Perhaps others were near. They decided to shake up the infidels in the school.

One of then took a grenade and crept to the edge of the woods closest to the school. The time was roughly 2 am. He pulled the pin and let the spoon fly hearing the satisfying sizzle of the fuse. He gave it a mighty heave at the school. It didn’t land on the roof as he’s hoped but bounced off the wall and exploded.

There was some random firing from the school. If they had a sniper rifle maybe one of the defenders could be taken out. He crept back to the pavilion. One the message board first one then another group responded. By morning they would slaughter the infidels. Awad opened his pack and took out a US Army MRE, a special Halal one, beef stew with chickpeas. It was quite tasty he thought.

Chicago...maybe Minneapolis/St Paul? The Mall of America would be a ripe and symbolic target... Large populations of folks who might be philosophically inclined to support the jihadis in both areas. That's all I'll say to avoid any political discussion...which is forbidden on this site.

Then again, If I were a bad guy I'd likely target the geographical heartland so maybe somewhere between Lincoln, Nebraska and St. Louis.

It'd be a powerful demonstration that nowhere is safe...

Oklahoma City. Used to have a Guard unit at the airport that ran C-130's. Hospital just to the east of it, nicer neighborhoods not too far from that. I wouldn't call them affluent, but nice middle to upper-middle class.

Crap not a clue. KA ALB CO,UT NM yep narrowed it down. I hope to see this one go on, really like it so far. Thanks.

Hey some of us old enough to remember B production movies from 80-s even blockbusters from that decade had one dimensional characters and bad guys were personification of the stereotypes.

Hey some of us old enough to remember B production movies from 80-s even blockbusters from that decade had one dimensional characters and bad guys were personification of the stereotypes.
That doesn't make it a good thing.

It is fiction, now is this any more plausible than most of Chuck Norris movies short answer is NO but it is entertainment. Now do I foresee this tread being gone soon answer is YES simply ZS is not a place where such stereotyping is condoned nor looked favorably.

My theory is we are all or at least most of us are adults and we do not buy into such stereotypes but it is possible that some young and impressionable mind could buy into it.

Little more detail on what's happening

The jet was a Air Bus 'Freighliner' model so a full size jet with a range of over 2,000 nautical miles.

There are 75 or so teams of 4 men each. With a few exceptions they have AK's , a little food, tablet computers, smart phones and a few grenades. Teams have a few guys with training and tools to steal cars to provide transportation.

A few teams had heavy weapons like the mortars used as a distraction in the initial landing, missiles used to take out the control tower and the grenade launcher to take out IL ANG planes on the ground.

Most of the teams only have an initial target to hit. The 'plan' is there is no 'plan'. There is a web site for them to post - think of it as Jehadi facebook. So as they find targets and move from place to place others could join in. There is also and internet team in say Saudi posting to maybe 'wider' Jehadi social media. Possibly spawning unrelated 'lone wolfs'?

The islamist POV in the beginning was a bit of a cheat to give readers enough information to set the scene to get the action started quickly. Most the the next few stories will be from the 'white hat' point of view.

Maybe even start a story with a denizen of the ZS having his (her?) evening of net-surfing interrupted with the urgent need to bug out or to road block the neighborhood?

Well, we know we're somewhere in Illinois! So, Peoria, Springfield or (unlikely), Scott AFB where I have many friends at both TRANSCOM and at HQ AMC.
