MilCopp 2012 Carbine II class, June 9-10

Postby Greg Focker » Tue Feb 07, 2012 4:47 pm

You might be thinking "Wait, isn't there already a thread for this?". That was the let's-get-this-off-the-ground-discussion. This thread is about the actual class 8-) . Previous ZS classes have been held in Ohio, and now they've done some in South Carolina, too. Gravedigger4 has done the prep work, and we are good to go with a different range, namely the Big Piney Sportsmen's Club in Missouri. This range has a shoot-house. We'll be able to shoot at longer distances than any other MilCopp class I've taken. I am pumped for this range, even though it will take me an extra twenty hours of driving time, round trip. Braxton has offered to let us camp on a piece of land his family owns about 5 miles from the range. There is a house with two bathrooms, and we will be able to use them to shower and whatnot. Assuming you own or can borrow camping gear, that cuts a large expense (lodging) from the overall cost of taking this class.

The class will be a pistol/carbine class, with more emphasis on pistol than your average carbine class. The class will run June 9th and 10th. Tuition is $420, and that includes the fee Big Piney charges for use of their range. The expected total round count is 1200 rifle, 600 pistol. For students who have never taken a class before, or who want a warm up to knock the rust off, there will be a pre-class offered on June 8th, also at the Big Piney range. The Friday class will be a basic, Level I course of Rifle and Pistol, the "How to's" of sighting, grip, trigger control, presentation and all that. Round count for this one day class will be 300 rifle, 200 pistol. Tuition for the one day class will be $100 if you are also taking the two day class, and $150 if you are taking it as a stand alone class. Having taken a dynamic class prior to the two day is a prerequisite. Hint: the one day class fulfills that pre-req, and does it cheaper than any other reputable class is going to. Unlike previous MilCopp ZS classes, as neither Doc nor Dave are local to the area, lunch will NOT be provided. They will be providing some water, but in the June heat it will be a good idea if we have a few people volunteer to bring a case of bottled water as well.

Gear list can be found here (ignore the round counts).
You also might want to read most of this, especially the "basics of a fighting rifle" and the section on how to set up your gear.

This class will be more of a "hit the ground running" than previous ZS MilCopp classes. We will be doing a lot of run and gun in order to take advantage of the facilities. Expect the class days to run later than normal, again to take advantage of the facilities, although we will NOT be doing low-light shooting. We will be doing more shooting at range.

Here's the list of who is definite, probable, and possible for both the main class and the warm up class.

In for both classes.

Please let me know if you plan on camping at my place. We will also try to organize a BBQ or something.

I'm in!

Oh, wait, I have to be in.

Well, it's going to be fun.

List me "Possible" for both, until further notice. Hoping to commit soon, though.

Braxton, I plan to occupy your lawn. I'll try not to stink it up.

Oh yeah, Braxton's place. Count me in as long as there are two trees approximately hammock distance apart. Might need to borrow a sleeping bag though because I don't want to haul one on an airplane from Seattle.
Thanks Anianna!

Well put me down as a possible for the two day, I will have the range set up but as for attending class that is still up in the air do to that's summer surge time at work and its going to be crazy I will at least make an appearance to take credit for securing the range.

I will be doing a video recon on thursday for Doc and Dave. If time allows I will post a short video on here with a peek at the range facilities.

Probable for both. (As in, if I can go, I'll definitely do both, I am probable on being able to go).

I'll be driving from CO, I can throw a case or two of gatorades from Sams in the truck if I'm able to confirm. I'm not camping out in June in MO for anything. I'll score a nice air conditioned hotel. I'm too huge a vag from living in Colorado for too long to be able to stand the level of humidity and bugs that Missouri has day AND night. State bird is mosquito, right?

I still plan on hitting a local class or two beforehand, but I might need the pink fng tube top anyway.

I am as "definite" as I can be for both classes and for camping at Braxton's.

So, that's $520 bucks, 1500 rounds of rifle, and 800 rounds of pistol ammo.

Can't wait!

Fawk - Jun9 is shorty's special day. Lee, I'm gonna need instructions on the whole "The chair is against the wall, John has a long mustache" thing.

Put me on POSSIBLE for both - I missed last year, this can't happen again. :gonk:

Braxton - would like a section of grass on the lawn if possible.

Put me down for a possible/probable for all three days (if I'm going to fly out I might as well make it worth it  ). I need to make sure I can get the days off from work and price out travel expences.

I will be planning on camping out a Braxton's place. I don't really want to have to haul my camping gear with me from WA State, but if it saves me some cash I guess I can't complain. :)

Look in Houston or Licking Missouri for a hotel.

How hot is it gonna be in Missouri at night in June? What's the humidity usually like? I mean, shit, it's 500 miles north of here, right? Are we talking 90% humidity and 89 degrees at 4AM?

Is it "sleepable" weather and humidity?

Also, Braxton: Do we need a thread in "meetups" coordinating food/booze/supplies/etc for the stay at your mom's place? My plan was not to drive 9 hours back Sunday night after 3 days of busting ass. I was gonna leave Monday, is that cool? I'm pretty good at cleaning....

Jot me in as a possible for all three days. I figure if I end up driving over 12 hours to get to the place, then I may as well maximize my trigger time. Work seems to be okay with the dates and my wife as well, so the only issue is funds. With a few months to go I think it will be something I can manage. If I go, I'll very likely take advantage of the camping option.

I will be at my place from Wed night till Monday afternoon. That will give everyone time to show up early and leave late.

We don't need another thread to talk about what to bring. Bring what you would bring camping.
