Okay, so this might be my first non-troll post in this thread:

Serious Question:

Shooting star mags in stainless with a baseplate, or wilson combat stainless with a baseplate?

The shooting star mags are about half the cost of the wilsons.

Specifically,

Neither. Get the power plus mags. They supposedly really do a good job of helping out with reliability issues.

If you want, I'm getting my RIA soonish. I plan on ordering a couple different sorts, may be a good idea to get a confetti selection to begin with yourself? I'd be glad to loan you anything I snag that you wanna try.

Never used the stainless Shooting Stars in my RIA, but the blued ones have never given me any issues, and you can get rid of that bumper if you want a flush mag.

I have 3 wilsons and have never had a problem with them. But my colt also likes shitty gi mags at a fraction of the price. Seems like mags are all into what the pistol likes.

For a pistol your just gonna pretend ya hate  and beat on I wouldn't waste the loot on.wilsons.

FWIW, when I carry my 1911 I load and carry gi mags I get at the gun show. After I test them.

Since many people at Z-con will have 1911s, just try a variety of mags. Some guns are "picky" about magazines, some aren't. I suspect those that are "picky" have undiagnosed malfunctions.

Create a list such as:
  • Chip McCormick Power magazine
  • Chip McCormick Shooting Star magazine
  • Wilson Combat basic 8-round magazine
  • Wilson Combat Elite Tactical magazine
  • Colt 7-round magazine
  • Springfield 7-round magazine

You need to use factory magazines only so that it runs the way JMB intended it to.

While I'm also pretty sure JMB would have been okay with me whanging on the side of it with a hammer, the AO magazines are pure shit, and probably just some $5 Metalform mags straight out of the Numrich catalog.

I'm okay with making sure the mags /arent/ the problem, and when the mccormicks are $15, I dont care.

And the Glock guys (who are to the gun world what Apple guys are to the computer world) come out of the woodwork.

Cut the guy some slack. If he's going to sell this "custom" 1911 on gunbroker for $800, he's going to need some magazines that at least are rust free, right? :D

Both work well in mine too, but because of cost I normally go with Shooting Stars.

I ordered a few shooting stars this morning but yeah, clearly I need to keep using the hobo mags until I get a chance to use them in someone elses pistol and conclusively determine they're bad.

stretching the mag springs by hand to restore tension? :gonk:

Good call on sandblasting the mags though.

My favorite mags for my RIA are three that my Dad was issued in the Army in the 80's One of them was found under the sink. After a knocked the rust off, cleaned it a little bit and replaced the spring it runs like a top. Better than the mag it came with. The other two weren't quite as bad. I was able to keep those springs after knocking the rust off.

Course, it also likes the "Gi style" mags that you can get from sportsmans guide. Apparently it's ridiculously non-picky.
