This ain't gonna end well.

you do realize that you have now been exposed to the most dangerous virus in the known universe, an addiction that makes
crack, meth, and steroids look like cookies and ice cream?

It starts out with " I'm going to tinker with this until it works", progresses thru " If I try this " and pretty soon you are up at 3AM browsing the internet for titanium guide rods with captive scandium springs.
You are truly among the damned now brother, embrace the hate and kiss your life goodbye.

LOL, you say that, but when its hot pink duracoat with a shotgun bead for a front sight, I'll be laughing.

Honestly this thing is the least favorite gun Ive ever owned. I liked my Walther P01 better and it was also a piece of shit.

There is a Florida Arms ComPany that makes BHP frames :

http://floridaarms.com/catalog/combos-f ... 1a98565578

I have Crow's eyes, so anything in stainless gets my attention.

Yeah, I know, very pricey for just a frame and slide. But at least the frame already comes with an extended beavertail.

Since I also dabble in IDPA, there is a rule that says no safety mechanisms are allowed to be disabled. A ground up BHP build should circumvent that mag safety issue.

I now return you to crypto's 1911 rebuild thread.

I could probably tig that set screw hoLe shut, but then you'd have to refinish the frame.

I'm going to sandblast it when I'm done fucking with it and dunk it in zinc phosphate, so thats not a problem.

What my problem is, is my inability to work a tig welder and my inability to operate a dremel in such a confined space as a trigger guard will undoubtedly make things more worse than better.

Heres me enlarging the inlet for the ambi safety. With a dull pocket knife.
Image

Heres the ambi safety during one of the test-fittings:
Image

I didnt take a picture of me pounding in the ambi side of the safety with a screwdriver handle, because it took both hands.

One secret of the old AO guns is that they were basically parts builds from Numrich, which is right next door to the old Auto-Ordnance plant. So, nothing really needs to be custom-fitted, this piece of shit is designed to run loose.

Anyway, I put the ambi safety in, and did function/safety tests on it for about 10 minutes to make sure this piece of shit doesnt murder me in my sleep. It clicks on and off with about the same amount of grit as the OEM safety.

Now my pistol is usable by lefties.

Its time to install sights!!!

Here's my tooling setup: I have a police baton, a hammer, and a couple of pins.
Image

I started by just beating on the rear sight with the baton, but that only got it half-way through. I tried using a brass drift, but that just beat up my drift.

I like my brass punch and drift set much more than my 1911 so I just put a t-shirt over the sight and started hitting it with the hammer.

Image

That'll buff out.

I did about the same with the front sight. I stuck a steel punch on top of the tenon, and beat the shit out of it for about 5 minutes, then dremelled it down so it cleared the barrel and bushing. Also applied red loctite liberally.

Image

Now I'm just waiting on a new extractor, some magazines, and a new spring or two.

Actually it's the other way around!

In the late 70s early 80s, Browning was rebadging the Sig P220 as the BDA (I think that's what they called it). It could be had in .45 ACP, 9mm, and 7.62.

I recall a buddy of mine who did time in Korea telling me about taking his 1911 to a Korean gunsmith to have it tuned... his story fits very nearly with yours Crypto, he said that the guy put it on a big block of hardwood, covered it with a piece of leather and beat the shit out of it with a hammer to even the rails. By the time the guy was done with the pistol, it ran like a top according to my friend.

I guess that hammers and beating the shit out of 1911s just kinda go hand in hand.

Have to interject that you aren't very observant, his whole arm and much of his fingers are ridiculously hairy, but his knuckles have almost none on them.

Back on topic....I have nothing real to add. Have fun beating up the worst example of a 1911 I've ever seen.

OH COME ON.

This thing is in FAR better shape than some of the pre-WWII colt 1911's Ive seen people jizzing their pants over on this very forum.

I briefly considered getting a front sight staking tool, and a 1911 rear pusher, but when I put them in my cart on Brownells, I realized they exceeded what I paid for the pistol.

Which is the very reason I put new sights and Double Diamond grips on the Norinco and called it good. Everything I wanted to do would have cost more than the pistol.

You gotta decide what the thing is worth to you and take it from there.
