Survival Firearm Battery Roll Call

Post by Arch » Sun Nov 15, 2009 4:05 pm

There has been a lot of discussions lately about some of the newer firearm designs available. I've been following the discussions with a high level of interest. I've been surprised by some of the ZS members who have supported some of the new technology. This interest was the basis for this post.

Please state your ideal "Survival Firearm Battery" in the following format:

Handgun (Make; Model; Caliber):
Shotgun (Make; Model; Gauge):
Hunting Rifle (Make; Model; Caliber):
Defensive Rifle (Make; Model; Caliber):
Miscellaneous Firearm (Make; Model; Caliber):

RULES FOR MY ROLL CALL

1) Please don't select guns that common survivalists can't afford or easily obtain (like the FN SCAR) UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY OWN ONE.

2) If you don't want to own a firearm in one of the categories, please state WHY.

3) PLEASE DO NOT BE JUDGMENTAL - LET PEOPLE EXPRESS THEMSELVES FREELY.

PLEASE NOTE:

You do not have to already own the gun. It just has to be the one YOU WANT for a specific category.

I just don't want people to select firearms they want, but will never be able to get (for example: FG42 or Thompson SMG). If you actually OWN something like this - then you are allowed to select that item. I'm trying to keep this roll-call "real".

To make this easy for everyone....here's a "copy & paste" list for ya....

Handgun:
Shotgun:
Hunting Rifle:
Defensive Rifle:
Miscellaneous Firearm:

Edit: The same pistol I cc. It isn't likely that I'll need anything beyond that. The rest is like rocking in a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn't accomplish much.

This is a tough answer because different scenarios might call for different firearms. What I would pick for survival would be different from what I would choose for a warfare scenario for example, 2012 versus Red Dawn if you understand what I mean. In both self defense would play a role but in survival feeding myself and family would be the primary concern while in warfare firearms that could be used for offense would be needed.

Scenario 1, the dollar has become worthless and the stores are stripped of food supplies with no more coming in. The large cities are starving but rural areas are banding together to form community pockets. Defense against gangs is important but so is feeding the community.

Handgun: Browning Buckmark, 22 rimfire
Shotgun: Remington 1100, 12 gauge
Hunting Rifle: Ruger 10/22
Defensive Rifle: FN/FAL
Miscellaneous Firearm: Ruger 77 Suppressed in 308

Scenario 2, the government has taken a turn for the worse and the president in power has decided to become dictator for live and become a modern day Stalin.

Handgun: Glock 17 9mm
Shotgun: Benelli 121, 12 gauge
Hunting Rifle: AR 15 suppressed, 300 Whisper
Defensive rifle: AR15, 5.56
Miscellaneous: a combo...CZ 52 and PPSh 41, 7.62X25

As you can see the second set is much more offensive in nature with the hunting rifle doing double duty as it would be good for hunting or sniping and capable of doing both very quietly yet still have the firepower for a pitched battle. I would prefer the Ar platform in 5.56 as it is lighter and I can carry more ammo that I could with the FN/FAL. The first set is much more defensive in nature.

Handgun: .357 revolver of choosing. (I like Security Six or model 19/66)
Shotgun: NONE - see below
Hunting Rifle: Scoped bolt action 30 cal (308, 30-06, etc)
Defensive Rifle: AR or AK (i have no personal preference and have owned both)
Miscellaneous Firearm: Levergun in .357

I'm not big on shotguns and would rather trade the shotgun for a .22lr bolt or semi auto rifle.

This list is from a rural perspective. If I was in a city the .357's would be traded for 9mm or 40 cal pistols and carbines.

First posting to the forums, and I've gotta admit, Arch's 'roll call' is a fun way to start.

Handgun: Browning Hi Power Practical; 9mm
Shotgun: Mossberg 590A1 9 shot Military; 12 Gauge
Hunting Rifle: Ruger 10/22; 22LR
Defensive Rifle: Bushmaster A-2 HB 16"; 5.56x45mm (prefer 11.5" upper, but CA and SBR permits do not mix)
Miscellaneous Firearm: Star Firestar M43; 9mm

I'll play!!!

Handgun: 2 XD 9mm's (the wifey needs one also)
Shotgun: N/A
Hunting Rifle: AR complete upper in 6.8 SPC with a can and good glass like a Night Force. Although the 5.56 would probably work for most anything I could eat in 1 sitting anyway.
Defensive Rifle: AR SBR 10 1/2" with AAC M4-2000 running irons
Miscellaneous Firearm: Guess the wifey can have my 10/22 with my AAC Pilot

Only 1 I dont have is the 6.8 with can (prob would never buy), but I can dream.

Handgun: glock 19 9mm
Shotgun: None (see misc)
Hunting Rifle: i am not a hunter. who i am kidding?
Defensive Rifle: m1 carbine 30rd mags w/fodling stock
Miscellaneous Firearm: 995 hi point carbine 9mm does everything a .22lr can do, and then some. 124+p gr ammo is nice or 115gr for a lighter shot. share handgun ammo is nice.

i have no desire to run to the woods and "hunt" with all of the people. staying put works for me.

Handgun: Glock 20 10mm
Shotgun: IAC 1887 winchester reproduction
Hunting Rifle: Kimber Bolt action, not sure of caliber or model I would want
Defensive Rifle: Tier 1 AR15 with optic
Misc: Glock 29

That seems like a good combo of practical and unnecessary badassery

ETA: I don't own these, they just sound fun.

Current:
Handgun: Sig Sauer P226 9mm
Shotgun: Remington 870 12-gauge
Hunting Rifle: Savage Bolt Action .22LR, scoped
Defensive Rifle: Bushmaster XM15E2S, 5.56m, with VTAC sling and tactical white light
Miscellaneous Firearm: Century Sporter (FA91 receiver), 7.62x51NATO

Ideal:
Handgun: Springfield XD45 Tactical, .45 ACP with tactical white light
Shotgun: Saiga 12, "tactical" conversion, 12-gauge, with EOTECH and tactical white light
Hunting Rifle: Ruger 10-22, .22LR, scoped
Defensive Rifle: Noveske Light Rifle AR with Trijicon ACOG, VTAC sling, and tactical white light
Miscellaneous Firearm: DSA FAL, 7.62mm NATO, with Bushnell Tactical 10x riflescope

Note that these are NOT assuming an INCH/nomadic on foot scenario. I assume this since I couldn't hump this many guns. If I were bugging out on foot, my choices would be different. But this is what I'd like in my locker at my BOL if I had the choice.
