SP2022 or used Gen3 G23?

Post by jaowens76 » Sat Jun 21, 2014 10:29 pm

My birthday is coming up on Thursday and my wife is wiling to buy me a pistol in the 400 dollar range (including shipping, transfer and tax). Buds has FDE SP2022's for 399 and J&G sales has used VG condition G23's for 339. I currently run a FNP9 and so 9 is all I have stocked atm. Which would you choose given these constraints? Why? And do any of you have a better handgun at that price point?

I'd go with g23.

You can buy a conversion barrel from Lone Wolf and turn it into a 9x19 too.

Both have night sights the sig would come with at least 3 mags and a holster. The Glocks sights would no longer glow/ or be fairly weak and only 1 mag(PoPo trade ins).

There are 2 factors making me even question this 1. I have a semi decent stockpile of 9, about 500 rounds. 2. Glocks have no "soul". They don't feel quite right and I do not like the way they look, however they are a great handgun, and after a mag or so when I transition to one I can shoot reasonably accurately. Ok bonus #3 I have wanted a Sig pro since they first came out.

I like shooting those sigs better than glocks. I think the glock is slightly more durable and reliable.

There are a few things that you can do to give Glocks a 'soul', better sights, grip reduction or texture or a NiB slide, but it sounds like you want the Sig so get that.

It's that smug, superior attitude of theirs, strutting around in their fancy outfits like they're better than everyone else. Yeah, burn in hell, you snobbish bird bastards.

I'd say the 2022. Goggle about that gun, it is one of the most tested guns that I've read about. It's widely used outside the US. It's only Achilles heal is the price of its mags but mecgar makes them now so I see no reason not to get one.

Anyone know where to get Aperol?

I would get the G23, it goes with my G35's.

You clearly want the Sig, which doesn't suck, so get that.

you want the sig. Get the sig. You already answered by saying your only other pistol is an FN

Get a glock some other time. Pro's can't stay this cheap forever? $399 is nuts.

Glocks will be around forever. They can be found all day for a decent price. The Sig im not to well acquainted with but i do know they tend to run more then a Glock. The $399 price on the Sig is something i never seen before. Glock trade ins i see in the $350 to $400 all the time .

They used to come with a decent (if huge) open carry holster.

Sig uses a standard picatinny rail, right? Sounds like a good excuse to sling a TLR-1 on it and try the Armadillo Xfer for CC.

Depends I think? The combat model and a few others has one type, I think the rest have the other (and I dunno which is which). I do know it's a bitch to get a holster for a 226 combat. I've modded some, and tossed some. TlR-1 fits just fine though!

Anywho, the xfer would be just fine. Also, Armordillo is making a battlebelt version of the xfer. Motherfucker should be launching it soon... pics everywhere, goods nowhere! Google that if you haven't seen it. I'm going to get one. Between that and taco mag pouches, my kit just got even more flexible. Booya

Sig sells a light (not quite as nice as TLR-1 but cheaper) and a holster that fits with it mounted.

The 2022's have used a standard rail since ~2009 prior to that they were a weaver rail. I will look at the xfer for sure. I really liked my kydex holster for my battle belt that RTF^2 built for my FNP, and will probably give him the nod on that one.

So Sig now ships 2 mags with the sp2022's. At least the one my wife bought me anyway. So I got 4 total with the Sig rebate. At the range now waiting on my BIL to help test it out.
I will of course take photos both as shipped, and in hand.

Edited due to not checking Swype accuracy until after I posted.

I think it is more accurate while double and triple tapping than slow fire. I was making small objects smaller and mobile while doing rapid fire even better than with well aimed fire.
I did unfortunately have 1 FTE on my first run thru each of the mags it came with. The extractor simply did not perform 1 x per each mag and therefore basically caused a 1.5x feed. Empty plus live round vying for space = no bueno. After that we had no malfs. Both malfs were with Tula Brass. 120 rounds fired in total and only malfs were in first 20 rounds.

What is the correct remedial action at that point, combat reload? seems like it would be the fastest way to clear it and would only = a net loss of 1 round.

Here she be.. in the box I forgot to take more I was too busy blasting. Small grip installed.

Good to hear. Brother has a birthday next year, and is not a Glock fan. Might see if he likes the SigPros. Be sure to sling up some targets when you get a chance.

Will do Doc. I did not use standard targets today. I was using a soda can, oil bottle and an empty shotshell box.

Slick guns showed one company that had them for 359 shipped this week Kentucky Gun Co.

Stupid good price. I do not know if that one has 2 mags for sure or not, but if he prefers non FDE or your wallet likes the better price then they are the ones to beat atm.

Not sure, but I do know the Glock key for my TLR1 worked not just on my Glock but also on my pic rail on my AR and on the Sig as well. The TLR/Xfer/Sig combo works just fine, and that's with the all metal P series. The 2022 would work nicely, I'd imagine.

I got one of the Sig 2022s in 9mm. Excellent pistol. Very smooth double action trigger pull and good single action with short reset. Very comfortable pisol to shoot and very accurate. I have about 500 rounds through it with no issues and it is going into my CCW rotation. I can recommend it, especially since it comes with night sights for $399.

Also, Sig has a promotion going for new pistol purchases. Send in the paperwork and get 2 magazines and a pistol bag back. I already sent mine in.

Another 100 rounds down range, multiple Sam's soda cans have been put down hard. No further malfunctions. If anyone is on the fence about the Sig pro, just go buy one already.
