Magtech ammo

Post by grapplingunner » Sun Feb 24, 2013 11:46 am

I picked up some Magtech .40 for a trade. Out of 100 rds. I had over 10 failure to feed. First few times, gun would fire and stop 3/4 through its cycle locking the slide up. Dropped the mag, cleared the round, racked the slide. It would do this every few rounds. Towards the end it just hung up every time I racked the slide. To eliminate any possible problem with the gun, I put 100 rds. of Remington through it without a single malfunction (which is what I normally use). What gives? The gun is a SIG P250 Compact.

When you say it's jamming up 3/4 through the cycle, do you mean it's jamming up part way through the forward return/feed? Or 3/4 back into the extraction/ejection?

If it's the former, it could be bullet shape or overall length of the cartridge is causing feed problems.

I don't think I've ever shot any MagTech in any caliber. I have noticed, looking around at prices, that their .308/7.62 NATO seems to be less expensive and more available right now. Quality issues might explain that.

jamming during the forward return. just left the range and shot 50 rds of Federal with no problems. Im almost positive that it was the ammo now.

Could be the ammo. My only experience with magtech ammo was when my buddy showed up with a new hi-point .40 and a couple boxes of ammo.
It seemed to cycle pretty weakly, but I just figured it was the heavy slide.

Out of all my guns I have one little pocket rocket that absolutely hates a couple of brands of ammo. Even using FMJ it will hang up on the feed ramp about a quarter of the time. I polished the ramp and not one bit of difference. Seems to be something to do with the alloy of the barrel and the alloy of the copper coating of the round having a high friction coefficient. So for that one pistol only I have to be selective. Try a different brand. If it solves your problem be happy.

I have shot probably 300 rounds of the Magtech fmj in .40 through an XD with no issues. I bet you got a bad box though... It's not the best stuff.

I've shot quite a bit of their ammo, never had a problem.

Most of that was .357 Mag, but I have shot some of their 9mm and .45 before.

The stuff I shot was a bit dirty, didn't effect function though. Maybe their QC has gone downhill lately.

It's that smug, superior attitude of theirs, strutting around in their fancy outfits like they're better than everyone else. Yeah, burn in hell, you snobbish bird bastards.

And don't get me started on pandas!

I've shot maybe 500 rounds of their 9mm without a problem. At one of the ranges I go to it's the 9mm they use in their rental guns too (or it was anyway. Haven't been there in a couple months).

I ran a bunch of Magtech .380 through my Beretta 84 a few weeks ago - I thought it was a little dirty too, but no issues.
