Caretaker: Post-apocalyptic novel

Post by rpc » Fri Mar 16, 2012 12:37 pm

I'm pleased to announce the publication of Caretaker, a post-apocalyptic novel.

A virus quickly kills almost all of the world's population, leaving only a handful of survivors. They are faced with two tasks. First, they need to ensure their immediate survival. They have at their disposal all of the trappings of civilization, but it's up to them to get them working. The main character begins by getting a gas station powered up and collecting what he needs to make it through his first winter alone.

But just as important, these isolated people need to figure out how to make contact with the handful of survivors who they know are out there somewhere. Our main character does this by getting a radio station on the air, and then hoping and praying that someone hears it.

Caretaker deals with the practical issues that the survivors encounter, and it is rich with technical detail. I think those, like me, with an interest in radio will particularly enjoy it. But its also full of adventure and romance as they begin to rebuild society. If you liked Earth Abides, then you'll like Caretaker.

Caretaker is currently available as a Kindle eBook, and also in various other formats at Smashwords. (The Smashwords version includes PDF and RTF formats, so you can read it on your computer without downloading additional software.) It will also be available in paperback within a few weeks, and will also be available on Barnes and Noble as a Nook book.

(Caretaker was previously published last year under a pseudonym. This edition has been expanded and edited.)

Hi, I'm a sucker for a great read so I downloaded a sample and if I like what I see I'll buy the whole book.

Good luck and I'll let you know what I think.

I have a respect or those who can take a story in. Their heads and put it into writing.

Good luck!

Thanks both of you!

If it turns out to be the worst thing you ever read, then send me a private message. If you like it, please post a review on Amazon. :D

By the way, the following short story is free today (Thursday the 22nd) on Kindle:

The story is "Snowbound". It's a short story of a guy stranded in his car in a blizzard.
