"Be Expert with Map and Compass" by Bjorn Kjellstrom .

As you can already see, lots of people recommend this one. I bought mine used off amazon , it still had all the doohickeys in the back pouch ..about 5 bucks very well spent.

There's also a few good websites that will outline most of the key techniques.

Buy the Bjorn. Best book on the subject.

The mountaineering book gets good reviews as well, but the Bjorn is the book that 90% of folks first think of when it comes to a land-nav book. I just picked up the mountaineering book and the Army manual (I think it's a civillian publisher reprint) at Barnes and Noble, but I haven't had a chance to read them yet.

If you're looking to add GPS to your skill set, GPS Land Navigation by Michael Ferguson is a strong book on the subject.
